The question was posed to Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions after Shawn Porter’s drubbing of Paulie Malignaggi — what about a bout down the line between Porter and Floyd Mayweather?

“We’ll discuss it with Al [Haymon, the boxing adviser who has Mayweather and Porter in his huge stable of clients] and with Team Porter, and why not?” Schaefer responded. “Me as a fan, after what we’ve seen that he’s [Porter’s] done with Devon [Alexander], who is an outstanding boxer, and what he’s done with Paulie, who’s an outstanding boxer, and Floyd is the best boxer, from a boxing point-of-view. So I’d love to see the match-up with somebody as young and as aggressive and as relentless as Shawn. Relentless is the word. And who goes for it when he sees he has somebody in trouble. I as a fan would love to see that fight.”

Of course, Mayweather has his May 3 bout with Marcos Maidana first. And Porter’s next bout could be a defense of his title against mandatory challenger Kell Brook.
