Saucedo Explains His Deep Motivation To Unseat Maurice Hooker

By Miguel Rivera

Alex 'Cholo' Saucedo (28-0, 18 KOs) has a world title goal on making everyone in Oklahoma City and Meoqui, Chihuahua, proud of him on November 16.

On that day, the Mexican boxer will go for his first world championship, when he faces the junior welterweight beltholder of the World Boxing Organization, Maurice Hooker (24-0-3, 16 KO's).

The Top Rank promoted event will be broadcast by ESPN from the Chesapeake Energy Arena of Oklahoma.

Saucedo, who is trained by veteran trainer Abel Sanchez, has been waiting for this moment for a long time.

And there is also the sports rivalry between Texas, where Hooker is from, and Oklahoma.

But the win won't come easy, as the undefeated Hooker is riding a career-high. In his last fight, Hooker secured an upset decision win over previously unbeaten Terry Flanagan to capture the vacant WBO title.

"The opportunity came, I want to thank all of the people who have supported us, everyone in Meoqui, everyone in Chihuahua, everyone in Mexico - because I have received a lot of support from there, but also to everyone in Oklahoma City because they have received me very well for many years. This is for all of them, because I want everyone to be happy and proud of me," Saucedo told ESPN Deportes.

"I always wanted to put Meoqui on the boxing map as Najera did in the NBA. If everything goes well, we'll be closer to achieving it. And I also dream of being the second world champion in Oklahoma, the last one was Sean. O'Grady. Here the people received me well from the first moment and they are all excited about the possibility of me being their champion, and I am working to fulfill that for them.

"There has always been a great sporting rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, but fortunately I have a lot of fans in Texas because I made my first 15 fights there, so we are expecting a great night and a great fight."
