Samuel Vargas: record, next fight and profile →
Collazo, Vargas Fight Photos Gallery - New York City, New York - Brooklyn native and former welterweight world champion Luis Collazo kept his championship hopes alive with a split decision over Samuel Vargas (30-5-2, 14 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight brawl.
Once upon a time, Luis Collazo believed his mid-March appearance on Madison Square Garden grounds would come in the form of a career-high payday versus pound-for-pound king Terence Crawford.

Samuel Vargas has had a lot of “pinch me” moments in his boxing career. From fighting on national television, to facing world champions, bringing a boxing show to his native Colombia, and headlining arena shows in his hometown of Toronto.
Michael “Mick” Conlan is set to paint the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden green on St. Patrick’s Day for a third consecutive year. The Belfast native, two-time Irish Olympian, and top featherweight prospect packed the Hulu Theater to the rafters in 2017 and 2018 and will return on Sunday, March 17 to face the battle-tested Ruben Garcia Hernandez in the 10-round main event.
It’s significant move for Canada’s top promotional outfit, which had previously based its major events in Brampton, ON. The LBP “Next Generation” series at the Danforth Music Hall has become a popular mainstay, and it was clear the market for boxing in the downtown core of Toronto was there.
Former super middleweight champion and Sky Sports pundit, Carl Froch, was far from impressed with the recent victory by Amir Khan, who this past Saturday night survived a knockdown to claim a twelve round unanimous decision victory over Samuel Vargas in Birmingham. Khan was put on the canvas at the end of the second round, with a big overhand right, when he appeared to be in complete control.
Amir Khan was given a scare by Samuel Vargas before a unanimous points win in Birmingham on Saturday as his world title bid credentials were questioned. Khan claimed to have prepared for this bout as if it were a title fight, but few top-class opponents would have been concerned by what they saw from the 31-year-old after a strong start. Kell Brook - one potential opponent - was in the crowd to watch as Khan, who had ended his prior fight against Phil Lo Greco within 40 seconds, hit the canvas in the second round.
With his potential next opponent in attendance -- Kell Brook -- former world champion Amir Khan showcased the good, bad and ugly of his game. The good: He scored knockdowns in rounds two and three, unleashed blistering combinations that nearly took Vargas out in the fifth and moved well from first bell to last en route to a wide decision victory.
