SAM Soliman is certain he will get a mandatory crack at fellow Australian Daniel Geale's IBF middleweight boxing title after producing the "Rocky Balboa'' performance of his career to beat Felix Sturm in Germany. Soliman, 39 (43-11, 17 KOs), overcame a second-round knockdown in Dusseldorf to earn a unanimous 12-round points win in an eliminator for the No.1 ranking on Friday. While Sturm (37-4, 2, 16 KOs) might have been four points ahead after the first three rounds, he was comprehensively outworked for the remainder of the fight.

DUESSELDORF, Germany -- As previously reported, Sam Soliman defeated former WBA champion Felix Sturm by unanimous decision in their IBF middleweight title eliminator. Sturm sent his opponent on the canvas in the second round with a swinging right but Soliman somehow got up, and improved as the bout went on. The judges awarded it 116-111, 114-113, 114-113 to the 39-year-old Australian, who will next fight compatriot Daniel Geale for the IBF title.

ISS Dome, Düsseldorf, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany - Sam Soliman (43-11, 17KOs) won a close twelve round unanimous decision over former champion Felix Sturm (37-4-2, 16KOs). The scores were 116-111, 114-113 and 114-113 for Soliman. Sturm drops his second fight in a row. Soliman, now the winner of a final middleweight eliminator, gets in place for a mandatory fight with IBF champion Daniel Geale. Sturm had the edge in the first and dropped Soliman hard with a right hand in the second. Soliman was badly hurt and managed to remain on his feet to the bell. Soliman was also hurt in the third. But in the fourth, Soliman started to warm up his engine and made it a fight by moving, staying active with his hands and catching Sturm with good punches. Sturm started to rally back in the ninth round and the fight became a close encounter until the final bell.

Sam Soliman is prepared to retire if he beats Felix Sturm in Germany this weekend and doesn't get the next crack at fellow Australian Daniel Geale's IBF middleweight boxing title. Soliman, the No.1 contender for Geale's title, tackles No.3 rated Sturm in Dusseldorf on Friday (Saturday morning AEDT). Having won a title eliminator in his last bout, 39-year-old Soliman could just have waited for his mandatory crack at the winner of Wednesday's bout between Geale and Anthony Mundine without taking a potentially risky contest against 34-year-old former world champion Sturm. Geale's promoter Gary Shaw said on Monday he would consider petitioning the IBF for his man to have a voluntary defence after fighting Mundine.

The final press conference took place for the Sturm-Soliman IBF middleweight title eliminator, which takes place on Friday at the ISS Dome in Dusseldorf, Germany. Felix Sturm, Former: 3-Time Middleweight Champion: "I'm excited about Friday. It's great to be in Dusseldorf and I am in great shape. I had an excellent camp. Some of my sparring partners were able to clone his fighting style and I'm really prepared to fight a guy as unorthodox as Sam. The fight against him will still be very difficult but I'll prevent him from getting into his rhythm. I need to dictate the pace and the distance and I'm sure I'll do just that. Sam is a great challenge and I haven't looked past him. I'm completely focused on him. I want to become champion again and I'll make the first step towards that goal on Friday night. The fans are in for a real treat."

Sam Soliman has shown Felix Sturm how seriously he is taking their IBF middleweight world title eliminator next month by insisting on drug testing before and after the bout. The winner of the fight in Dusseldorf on February 2 (AEDT) will get a crack at the victor of the January 30 world title contest in Sydney between IBF champion Daniel Geale and fellow Australian Anthony Mundine. Victorian veteran Soliman left Australia on January 15 and has spent the past week training in London.

Three-Time Middleweight Champion Felix Sturm invited the media to his private gym in Cologne, Germany, today to showcase his training regime and give the journalists an insight into the preparation for his Feb. 1st IBF World Middleweight Title Eliminator against Australian Sam Soliman, which will take place at the ISS Dome in Dusseldorf.

Danish veteran Lolenga Mock is again in Germany and is sparring with former WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm, who is in training for his eliminator against Sam Soliman on February 1 in Duesseldorf. Mock has been a steady fixture in the Sturm camps for the last few years but what´s new is that Lolenga will also get a fight on the undercard. Lolenga was last seen in the ring in 2011 when he lost a ten round decision to Dawid Kostecki in Poland.
