Sadam Ali: record, next fight and profile →
Just last month, rising Mexican talent Jaime Munguia (29-0, 25 KOs) dethroned former World Boxing Organization [WBO] champion Sadam Ali with a vicious fourth round stoppage. The 21-year-old had been touted as a possible opponent for Gennady Golovkin when his rematch with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez fell through.
The ratings for his HBO debut understandably weren’t as high for Jaime Munguia’s huge win Saturday night as those for the middleweight champion he wanted to fight a week earlier. Viewers still are much more familiar with the Mexican knockout artist than they were this time last week.
A new star was created on Saturday night, as Jaime Munguia (29-0, 25 KOs) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, scored an emphatic fourth-round technical knockout victory against Sadam "World Kid" Ali (26-2, 14 KOs) of Brooklyn to capture the WBO junior middleweight world title at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

Munguia, who had a substantial size and punching power advantage, easily won the lopsided bout. The 21-year-old Mexican floored Ali twice in the opening round, once in the second and again in the fourth before the referee put a halt to the slaughter.
Late sub Jaime Munguia butchered Sadam Ali, landing 47% of his power shots, scoring four knockdowns and getting the stoppage in the fourth. Ali landed just 30 total punches to 59 for the new champ Munguia.

Ali, Munguia Scorecard BoxingScene Live - The main event is a junior middleweight title showdown, as Brooklyn’s Sadam Ali (26-1, 14 KOs) defends his crown against rising challenger Jaime Munguia (28-0, 24 KOs) from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, in a scheduled 12-round bout.
NEW YORK – Sadam Ali realizes Jaime Munguia is dangerous. His opponent’s questionable level of opposition aside, the 21-year-old contender has displayed noteworthy power while amassing a 28-0 record that includes 24 knockouts. Brooklyn’s Ali (26-1, 14 KOs), a natural welterweight who’s more boxer than puncher, understands it’ll require going about his business in an intelligent manner to beat the rugged Munguia on Saturday night in Verona, New York.
Last December 2nd at the Madison Square Garden, Sadam Ali (26-1, 14 KO's) pulled of a major upset by defeating Miguel Cotto in what was his final professional bout. This victory also came with the WBO junior middleweight belt and now later tonight at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York - he makes his first title defense against Jaime Munguia, a late replacement for mandatory challenger Liam Smith.
