Ryan Garcia: record, next fight and profile →
It pays well to be a top attraction in boxing. Sports media publication Sportico released its "100 Highest-Paid Athletes in the World" list this week, and six fighters are featured on the list.
Ryan Garcia is ready to break the tie with his longtime rival. As BoxingScene.com previously reported, terms were reached for Garcia to challenge two-division and reigning WBC 140-pound titlist Devin Haney. Their bout will headline an April 20 DAZN Pay-Per-View event from a Las Vegas venue to be determined.
Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia have transformed years of talk into a budding superfight. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that a deal was reached for the pair of young stars to meet atop an April 20 DAZN pay-per-view event. Both sides acknowledged to Boxing Scene that advanced talks rapidly progressed to agreed terms, in line with breaking news reports from Daily Star’s Chris McKenna and ESPN’s Mike Coppinger of the bout’s status.
Promoter Eddie Hearn is apparently doing all that he can to get his client-pal Devin Haney a significant fight, despite whatever Oscar De La Hoya may think.
Ryan Garcia can be described by using a ton of words. Flamboyant? Sure. Loquacious? Absolutely. A bit big-headed? At times. A lady's man? Without question. A terrific fighter? In the eyes of most, yes. Entirely too cocky and full of himself? From Floyd Schofield Jr.’s point of view, he certainly is.
The admiration Ryan Garcia has for Floyd Mayweather Jr. apparently goes beyond casual association. During a lengthy interview with Patrick Bet-David on the PBD Podcast, Garcia, the junior welterweight contender from Victorville, Calif., opened up about his much-publicized friendship with “Money May,” making it clear that he respects the Hall of Fame Fighter more than most people even within his inner circle.
Ryan Garcia has revealed new wrinkles into his first professional loss. In April, Garcia suffered a seventh-round knockout defeat to Gervonta Davis. “For the first time ever, in the back room, I said to myself 'I'm losing this fight.' I knew, right in the back room,” Garcia said this week on a podcast with Valuetainment founder Patrick Bet-David. “Nothing is going right. I am so weak. None of my
Ryan Garcia thought that his options were never-ending. But, he slowly realized that no one was willing to wait on him. The 25-year-old desperately needed to bounce back. Gervonta Davis, at roughly the mid-way point of 2023, stripped him of his undefeated record. Following that stoppage defeat, Garcia took out Oscar Duarte.
The embarrassment that came from getting brutally knocked out at the hands of Gervonta Davis, may have been a blessing in disguise for Rolando “Rolly” Romero.
Manny Pacquiao still has plenty of fight left in him. The eight-division champion Pacquiao retired in 2021 shortly after losing a unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas, and he’s since hit the exhibition trail like many other past-their-prime stars have in recent years.
