Monte Carlo - There was a moment, a few weeks ago, when trainer Joel Diaz knew he had made the right move in agreeing to coach former junior-welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov. The likeable Russian, who knows only a smattering of English, raised his arms in the gym and bellowed, “I am champion! I am champion!” Diaz called him over. “Ruslan, I promise I will make you champion again - if you listen.” “Coach,” said Provodnikov, “I will listen. I will sleep on the floor of the gym if I have to. I’ll do whatever it takes.”

Monte Carlo, Nov 4 - Ruslan Provodnikov has been promised another world championship fight within six months, if he gets through Saturday night's fight against Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez in Monte Carlo. This was the pledge of US promoter Art Pelullo, who warned that the Russian junior-welterweight puncher cannot think beyond this weekend's assignment.

Former junior welterweight world champion Ruslan Provodnikov (24-4, 17KOs) will is training hard for his next fight on November 7 in Monaco. His opponent will be 23-year-old Mexican contender Jesus Rodriguez (13-0, 10KO). According to Provodnikov's manager, Vadim Kornilov, the original plan was to have his fighter make his Showtime televised debut against former champion Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs). They thought the fight was a done deal and even started camp for the contest, but then Khan decided to take a pass on the fight.

Johannesburg, October 27 - Former world champion Ruslan Provodnikov (24-4, 17 KOs) says he will be in great shape for next weekend’s showdown with Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez (13-0, 10 KOs) in Monte Carlo as he was in training for a fight in New York at the same time. Those plans changed, though, because “six or seven opponents changed their mind about fighting me”. They include Amir Khan and Shawn Porter. The Russian’s in-your-face style makes him a tough fight for anyone and it’s little surprise that many big names have baulked at the chance to challenge him.

Earlier this week it was announced that former WBO super lightweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov would face Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez in Monte Carlo on November 7th. The fight would headline a card put on by promoter Rodney Berman called "Night of Champions." Juergen Braehmer was originally scheduled to headline the card against Tommy Oosthuizen but pulled out of the fight with a hand injury and Berman made a deal with Provodnikov's promoter Artie Pellulo for the Siberian Rocky to take his place.

Well-versed in the art of rescuing cards after late fallouts, promoter Rodney Berman has secured a new main event for his “Night of Champions” bill on November 7 in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Former super lightweight champ Ruslan Provodnikov will now appear atop the show as he was already training in hopes of separate opportunities elsewhere on the date. He will face Jesus Alvarez, an unbeaten welterweight from Mexico, in a bout slated for either 10 or 12 rounds, depending on whether a regional title can be secured.

Diaz trains several fighters and recently parted ways with two-division champion Tim Bradley, who is now being trained by Teddy Atlas. Provdonikov faced Bradley (when Diaz had him) in 2013 in a Fight of The Year battle.

Manager Vadim Kornilov believes Golden Boy Promotions made a big mistake in rejecting an offer to stage a Ruslan Provodnikov-Lucas Matthysse rematch. Matthysse won a close twelve round majority decision over Provodnikov in April. It was one of the better action fights of 2015. Kornilov, who manages Provodnikov, is also the guiding force behind newly crowned WBC junior welterweight champion Viktor Postol.
