A full slate of fights was announced this afternoon by Showtime, and one of them includes a fighter who had previously been a consistent presence on the rival network, HBO - Ruslan Provodnikov.

It’s been a slow year in general for the boxing world, as fans have patiently waited – perhaps to a fault – waiting for something to finally happen. The upcoming spring/early summer schedule is as strong an indication as any that Showtime is doing its part to shake up the status quo.

BoxingScene.com recently reached out to former WBO 140 pound champion Ruslan Provodnikov (25-4) in the wake of Top Rank CEO Bob Arum's recent announcement that he would like to match his fighter Terence Crawford (28-0) against Provodnikov in the summer.

Bob Arum was very pleased with WBO super lightweight champion Terence Crawford's 5th round knockout of Hank Lundy on Saturday night in New York. After the fight the Top Rank chairman Bob Arum revealed that former champion Ruslan Provodnikov was a leading contender to face Crawford in his next bout.

Coming off his successful debut in New York this past weekend, where Terence Crawford stopped Hank Lundy in five rounds, promoter Bob Arum now has designs of taking him out west for his next outing. One of the options Arum is considering is the former WBO champion at 140-pounds, Ruslan Provodnikov (25-4, 18KOs).

WBO junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford is going to return on a date in June or July, according to his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank. Crawford (28-0, 15KOs) returned on Saturday night at the Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden, with a fifth round stoppage of Hank Lundy. Crawford broke Lundy down, dropping him in the fifth and then finishing him off with a series of combinations against the ropes.

A few days ago, BoxingScene.com's Steve Kim first reported that a fight between former champions Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33KOs) and Ruslan Provodnikov (25-4, 18KOs) was discussed by Roc Nation Sports and Banner Promotions. The fight was being targeted for June 18th at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight would happen around the welterweight limit of 147-pounds.

Sources have advised BoxingScene.com that a fight between former champions Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33KOs) and Ruslan Provodnikov (25-4, 18KOs) has been discussed by Roc Nation Sports and Banner Promotions. The fight - should it come to fruition - would take place on June 18th at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Former WBO junior welterweight world champion Ruslan Provodnikov (25-4, 18KOs) will soon arrive in the United States to begin training for a potential fight, which is scheduled for the spring - according to the boxer's manager Vadim Kornilov.

As the calendar has turned to the new year, it's clear that junior welterweight contender Mauricio Herrera (22-5, 7KOs) has a myriad of options awaiting him for 2016. "They've mentioned to me a couple of names," Herrera told BoxingScene.com on New Years Day. "Ruslan (Provodnikov) is a good name and (Lucas)Matthysse at 147, (Terence) Crawford was in February. I reviewed everything and Ruslan for me makes more sense, overall. I had a talk with Robert Diaz and Golden Boy and they agreed, they were leaning towards Provodnikov."
