Andy "Destroyer" Ruiz, the current world heavyweight champion of the World Boxing Organization, the International Boxing Federation, the International Boxing Organization and the World Boxing Association, received a great reception from the media and fans on Tuesday afternoon at the TV Azteca facilities south of Mexico City.
"One thing, I wanted to silence the mouths of everyone who said that chubby guy will not do anything, but thank God that we achieved all of our dreams, many told me that I was not going to achieve this, that I was not going to be able to with an opponent like him (Anthony Joshua), but at that moment I achieved all my dreams, I asked God to help me to achieve it and in that moment I grasped my dreams," explains Ruiz.
"This was thanks to the effort of my father who always took care of me... all those times when I took some bad steps. I told him that sooner or later I was going to be able to pay him back for all that, that things were going to change, that night was a lot of joy."
Along with the new sensation of Mexican boxing was his father Andy Ruiz Sr, Benjamín Salinas the CEO of TV Azteca, Mauricio Sulaimán of the WBC, Gilberto Mendoza of the WBA, Fernando Beltrán the CEO of Zanfer Promotions, Miguel Torruco of CONABOX, coach Manny Robles, among others.
Ruiz (33-1 and 22 KO's) was accompanied by Beltran, who introduced him as a new superstar that fans will be able to follow.
"We are very proud of you, that you visit us in this house, that you are an example for all Mexicans because what this country needs most is hope, and you are a pleasure for all of us for what you have achieved," said Benjamín Salinas, CEO of TV Azteca.
While as an amateur with a 105-5 mark he formed part of the Mexican Olympic squad and selected to head to the Beijing games in 2008, where unfortunately he could not qualify and decided to make the leap to the professional ranks.
In the morning, the Mexican champion was received at the National Palace by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, President of Mexico.
