Former four division champion Roy Jones Jr. believes a showdown between UK rivals Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte will generate fireworks in the ring.

Whyte, and his promoter Eddie Hearn, expect the World Boxing Council to order a mandatory fight with Fury, who holds the WBC's world title at heavyweight.

“Let him fight Dillian Whyte, because that won’t be a stinker. Whyte is the puncher, Fury is the boxer. We expect Fury will win, but it won’t be a stinker because Dillian is dangerous every second," Jones told Talk Sport.

“That’s what we love. That’s why we loved the fight with Wilder, because he was dangerous every second. That’s boxing. So let’s keep people entertained.”

One fight that Jones doesn't like, is a unification between Fury and IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk - because he believes their respective styles will make for a boring fight.

“Coming off a brilliant performance, you don’t want to bill a fight that’s a stinker. Both of these guys are mental boxers rather than physical boxers. A mental boxing match can be a stinker to the fans. With the heavyweight division being as hot as it is right now, we don’t need a stinker. Let’s keep it right," Jones said.

Earlier this month, Fury overcame two knockdowns to score a sensational knockout of Deontay Wilder in the eleventh round of their trilogy fight.

He will likely make his next defense in March or April. The fight is believed to be a mandatory defense, with Whyte being the frontrunner.

No mandatory defense of the WBC heavyweight title has been made since May of 2019, when Wilder knocked out Dominic Breazeale in one round.
