Nicaraguan former world champion Rosendo Alvarez (37-4-2, 24KOs) returned to the ring for the first time since 2006, but he was disqualified in the sixth round of a bout which occurred in Managua, Nicaragua. After many warnings from referee for fouls, the 42-year-old Alvarez, who was winning the fight, was disqualified. The much younger Jean Sampson (12-1, 7KOs), 22, accepted the fight at the last minute after the previous opponent withdrew. He was announced as the winner.

Also on the card, heavyweight prospect Luis Ortiz (16-0, 13KOs) stopped Walter Palacios (20-18, 11KOs) in two rounds.
