MGM GRAND, LAS VEGAS - Former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado was in Las Vegas this past weekend to catch Canelo Alvarez's 11th round knockout win over Sergey Kovalev.

Over the past few weeks Rosado has been mentioned as a potential "backup" fighter for the Daniel Jacobs-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight that is scheduled for December 20th.  The plan was for Rosado to fight on the undercard and if Chavez misses weight - Rosado would step in.

The 33-year-old Rosado confirmed that talks are underway.

"Eddie hit me up about it. So it's just a matter of negotiations and making sure the numbers are right. We are ready to rock bro. It is a fight I have been wanting. It is a matter of setting it up," Rosado told BoxingScene.com.

Rosado last fought in March when he lost a unanimous decision to Maciej Sulecki. The fight was an all out war with both men hitting the canvas twice.

The all-action fighter  said that he didn't understand how Chavez Jr. landed the fight in the first place and believes that he will give Jacobs a much better fight.

"We are going to see what's up man. Honestly I think the fight that the fans want to see is me and Jacobs. I don't see why they would even consider the Chavez fight in the first place. I don't get it. You are actually going to see with me and Jacobs. Chavez and Jacobs I think everybody pretty much knows what is going to happen in that fight. I am pretty sure I am going in as the underdog but at the end of the day the fans know I am coming to win," said Rosado.
