Ronnie Clark is set to challenge for domestic honours next weekend.
Clark, who picked up a first round stoppage victory last Saturday night against Beijing Olympian Nobert Kalucza, will challenge Martin J Ward for the British super-featherweight title, exclusively live on Sky Sports.
The 31-year-old southpaw improved his record to 17-3-2 (10 KOs) at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen against Kalucza, who slipped to 12-4 (7 KOs) in defeat, and is ecstatic to be facing ‘Wardy’ on November 26 at the SSE Arena, Wembley.
“He's a bully,” Clark said of his future foe, who won the vacant belt with a dominant stoppage of Andy Townend in September. “He bullies his opponents but I can tell you he won't bully me.”
"I'm delighted to get this opportunity and thank you to [manager] Mark Dunlop and all my team for securing it.
"I've been in camp now for since October and I can assure everyone the British title is coming back to Dundee.”
While this may seem short notice for some, Ronnie has been in full training for this fight since his victory at the Europa Hotel on October 8 when he outpointed Reynaldo Cajina, who is well known on the UK circuit.
Clark's manager Mark Dunlop gave his take on the news that his charge would square off against the former GB representative Ward for his prestigious Lonsdale title.
"It’s great to be working with Matchroom Boxing again and I would like to thank Eddie Hearn & Team MJ Ward for agreeing to this fight.
“It’s going to be a cracker, I kid you not.
"Once victorious we will be looking for rematches with Maxi Hughes & Anthony Cacace, two people who without doubt deserve their chance also."
Ward, in the latest British Boxing Board of Control British championship notice, has been ordered to defend his belt against the aforementioned Hughes (16-2-2, 2 KOs), so that fight is expected to be next, should he get past the confident Clark.
The bill, which is called ‘Big City Dreams’, features the return of former IBF flyweight world title challenger Charlie Edwards and the professional debut of Irish amateur sensation Katie Taylor, who takes on Poland’s Karina Kopinska.
Ted Cheeseman faces Lloyd Ellett in an eliminator for the English super-welterweight title and Danny Dignum makes his professional bow on a card which features a super-lightweight crossroads clash between John Wayne Hibbert and Tommy Coyle.
Meanwhile, Ohara Davies challenges former Hibbert foe Andrea Scarpa for the WBC Silver super-lightweight title and the vacant WBC International Silver super-welterweight title is at stake when Ben Hall meets Carson Jones.
Reece Bellotti comes up against Ian Bailey in an eliminator for the English featherweight title, Jack Healy features and there is action for Conor Benn, Felix Cash, Jake Ball and Craig Richards.
