Former champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez (27-2-2, 16KOs) is ready to claim another world title, this time in the lightweight division. Martinez has been inactive since last November's knockout loss to Mikey Garcia in Texas. He was scheduled to face Raymundo Beltran in April, but withdrew with an illness.
One possible option for Martinez at 135-pounds, is IBF champion Miguel Vazquez (34-3, 13KOs) of Mexico.
Vazquez recently signed a contract with manager Al Haymon, who primarily works with Golden Boy Promotions. And Martinez's promoter, Puerto Rico Best Boxing, also work closely with Golden Boy.
"Roman has been champion several times and this makes him a viable fighter with this attractive market. [Besides the other options] Rocky could face Miguel Vazquez, who is another champion at 135 pounds," said Puerto Rico Best Boxing promoter Peter Rivera to Carlos Narvaez.
