NEW YORK – There figures to be much more weight separating Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs when they enter the ring Saturday night than there was Friday morning. Golovkin and Jacobs weighed in at almost exactly the same weight Friday morning inside The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) officially weighed 159.6 pounds for their 12-round middleweight title fight. Brooklyn’s Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) weighed 159.8 pounds. Because their weigh-in was about four hours earlier than usual, at least 38 hours will pass between the time they weigh in and the opening bell for their HBO Pay-Per-View main event. Jacobs is expected to weigh at least five or six pounds more than Golovkin once their fight starts, but Abel Sanchez, Golovkin’s trainer, doesn’t think the earlier weigh-in will amount to more of an advantage for Jacobs than for Golovkin.

For the first time since his professional debut 12 years ago, undefeated Nicaraguan boxer Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez will enter the ring without the man who guided him to all his victories, trainers Arnulfo Obando. Obando, who died of a stroke last November in Managua, Nicaragua, led Chocolatito Gonzalez to four world titles in four different weight divisions.

New York - Carlos Cuadras (35-1-1, 27 KO’s) made a name for himself on HBO last year when he took the consensus number 1 pound for pound fighter in the world, Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez (45-0, 38 KO’s), to depths we have never seen before.

By Cliff Rold - This Saturday, we get the fifth consecutive same-day pairing of WBA/WBC/IBF/IBO unified middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin and now-Jr. bantamweight Roman Gonzalez. It will be the fourth time in those five pairings that they’ve been paired on the same card. The larger Golovkin sells the tickets...

World Boxing Council super flyweight world champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez (46-0, 38 KOs) of Nicaragua sent a loud response to Mexican boxers Carlos 'Príncipe' Cuadras and Juan Francisco 'El Gallo' Estrada. Both of the Mexican boxers are chasing after Gonzalez, who beat them both over the years.

Cuadras: Rungvisai 'Hits Hard,' Could Knock Out 'Chocolatito'

If you look at Srisaket Sor Rungvisai’s resume, you wouldn’t think he’d have too much of a chance to upset Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez next week. The Thai southpaw has a good record (41-4-1, 38 KOs), has won 83 percent of his bouts by knockout and once owned the WBC super flyweight title. But the contender’s record has been padded largely against opponents who had losing records or were inexperienced compared to him.

1. This is your first training camp without your long-time trainer, Arnulfo Obando, who tragically passed away in October. This must have been extremely difficult for you on a personal level when that happened. Professionally, did it take much time to decide how to proceed?

Carlos Cuadras: 'Chocolatito' Running From Rematch, Fears Me!

•Mar 9, 2017

The supposed plan after March 18 is to make a Roman Gonzalez-Carlos Cuadras rematch. That’ll require Nicaragua’s Gonzalez (46-0, 38 KOs) to defeat Thailand’s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (41-4-1, 38 KOs) and Cuadras (35-1-1, 27 KOs) to overcome fellow Mexican David Carmona (20-3-5, 8 KOs) on the Gennady Golovkin-Daniel Jacobs undercard next week at Madison Square Garden (HBO Pay-Per-View). If Gonzalez is successful in a mandatory defense of the WBC world super flyweight title he won from Cuadras and Cuadras defeats Carmona, Cuadras gets the sense that there’s no guarantee that Gonzalez will fight him again in his next bout.
