Roman Gonzalez: record, next fight and profile →
Super flyweight world champions Juan Francisco 'Gallo' Estrada and Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez are ready for a rematch in 2021, as long as the money meets their expectations. A unification battle is what they are looking for, to put aside the doubts about who is the best fighter at the weight.

Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez’s pressure and volume prevented Israel Gonzalez from having any chance of pulling off an upset Friday night. Juan Francisco Estrada insists he is fully focused on his WBC World Super-Flyweight title defense against Carlos Cuadras tonight at TV Azteca Studios in Mexico City, Mexico, live on DAZN. Estrada (40-3 27 KOs) meets Cuadras in a rematch of their closely fought first battle in September 2017, and should Estrada retain his title and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez prevail in his WBA World Super-Flyweight title defense against Israel Gonzalez this evening, the pair will clash in a hotly-anticipated rematch in early 2021.
The career resurrection of Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez came right on time. A one-sided knockout win over England’s Khalid ‘Kal’ Yafai not only restored the legendary Nicaraguan as a junior bantamweight titlist but came just as the world was on the verge of shutting down. The feat took place on February 29, the last show to air live on DAZN prior to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. For months, there was no clear sign in sight of when the sport could resume, especially at the championship level.
Juan Francisco Estrada is trying to keep his attention on one rematch at a time. The WBC super flyweight champion doesn’t deny his strong desire, however, to finally fight Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez again. If Estrada conquers Carlos Cuadras in their rematch Friday night at TV Azteca studios in Mexico City and Gonzalez overcomes Israel Gonzalez on the undercard, they likely will meet in their own rematch next.
There is still plenty of fight left in Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, though he will have a lengthy list of memorable moments to look back upon whenever he decides to call it a career. For now, high among the most memorable moments was the most recently created memory.
