The champion is happy and satisfied and his wishes have been fulfilled. As previously reported, Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez will face Brian Viloria on October 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York. He was the opponent with whom Gonzalez yearned to fight, and he also gained the best purse of his career.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight champion admits that the negotiations were not easy. The initial offer did not satisfy Roman, but the negotiations improved and the purse increased.

"They offered me a small purse, but I wanted them to give me more, and so there were negotiations. I spoke with Mr. Akihiko Honda, and we agreed to fight with Viloria. I know I'm facing a good opponent. I have to show my quality and retain the championship. I'm happy with the purse, and to face Viloria and beat a quality fighter," said Roman after his training session that included sparring with Carlos Buitrago, Elvis Guillen and Winston Guerrero.

"We wanted to find the best purse for Roman and an opponent that had the name and experience of Brian Viloria. In recent weeks, Bob Arum of Top Rank, showed interest in the fight, and made a better offer than the initial one when they wanted Roman to fight in Mexico. The economic issue has impact, but it is not important. What's important is this fight will generate a higher projection for Roman in the United States," said Carlos Blandon, handler of the triple world champion.

This will be the second time that Roman fight in the United States on a card being showcased on HBO. In May he fought at the Forum in Inglewood in Los Angeles, by knocking out Edgar Sosa in just 3 rounds.

"Viloria is good, he hits hard. After the sixth round, he'll slow down. He has a very good crossover right, but he's not a boxer who can move. If you can not dance and have no legs, I will find you. He goes toe to toe because that's his style of fighting. We have faced similar opponents, and I was able to knock them out," Gonzalez said.

"That gives me the idea that I can knock out Viloria. I'm not being disrespectful, but I think I have the strength to win by knockout. My mission is to knock him out and keep proving that I am the best in the world in my class, so I'll go to prepare in Big Bear in the camp of Gennady Golovkin."
