LAS VEGAS – Ismael Barroso has mostly lost when he fought credible contenders. Uzbekistan’s Batyr Akhmedov, who will fight on Barroso’s undercard Saturday night, knocked him out in the ninth round the last time Barroso boxed a top 140-pound opponent. The Venezuelan veteran is 40 years old as well.

LAS VEGAS – There has been a lot of speculation about Ismael Barroso’s actual age since he appeared at a press conference Thursday at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS – Rolando “Rolly” Romero wants a rematch with Gervonta Davis. The brash Romero realizes, too, that a fight against the contender that Davis knocked out last month would also attract a lot of attention. Romero thus discussed the possibility of boxing Ryan Garcia following a press conference Thursday at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas to promote his fight against Ismael Barroso on Saturday night.

Rolly Romero is thankful that the testing process prevented him from fighting an opponent Saturday night who used a banned substance. Romero believes boxing has a long way to go, though, before his sport is anything resembling clean.
The WBA has rendered Alberto Puello its super lightweight champion in recess as it attempts to resolve his status with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. BoxingScene.com confirmed Wednesday that the WBA changed Puello’s championship status for failing a performance-enhancing drug test last month.
Although Gervonta Davis has faced a plethora of world-class fighters, at least on paper, it appeared as though Ryan Garcia would be his toughest test. The blinding hand speed, eye-catching knockouts, and braggadocious attitude forced countless prognosticators to take the 24-year-old seriously. Amongst a long list of names that were under the assumption that Garcia was more than capable of upsetting the applecart, was former Davis foe, Rolando “Rolly” Romero.
