Roger Gutierrez: record, next fight and profile →
The World Boxing Association (WBA) spoke to four of their world champions to obtain their analysis and predictions for this Saturday’s fight between undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, which will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Just a few weeks have passed and Héctor Luis García (15-0) is still basking in his career best win over Chris Colbert (16-1). The fight took place at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Late replacement Hector Garcia performed like the world champion he was substituting for on Saturday night, battering and dropping the highly touted Chris Colbert to earn a unanimous decision win in a 12-round WBA super featherweight world title eliminator that headlined a thrilling Showtime tripleheader from The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Roger Gutierrez was the night’s most interested observer of a show where he was supposed to play the lead. The reigning WBA junior lightweight titlist paid close attention to the Showtime main event which was to determine his next mandatory challenger. It turned out to be his replacement, Dominican Republic’s Hector Luis Garcia who delivered the performance of his career in overwhelming Chris Colbert over twelve rounds Saturday evening at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
As BoxingScene.com first reported, undefeated rising star Chris “Primetime” Colbert will now square off against unbeaten Dominican Olympian Hector Luis Garcia in a 12-round WBA Super Featherweight World Title Eliminator headlining live on SHOWTIME Saturday, February 26 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Chris Colbert will proceed with his career without breaking stride. No sooner did he lose out on a shot at the WBA junior lightweight title, Colbert was informed of a new opponent already secured for his scheduled February 26 Showtime-televised headliner. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the unbeaten junior lightweight will now face Dominican Republic’s Hector Luis Garcia, a late replacement for WBA titlist Roger Gutierrez (26-3-1, 20KOs) who withdrew from the ordered title defense after testing positive for Covid.
Chris Colbert is left to adjust for a new opponent, though while keeping an old fight date. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Roger Gutierrez is no longer able to proceed with his scheduled WBA junior lightweight title defense versus Colbert due a Covid outbreak among his team. Venezuela’s Gutierrez was one of several members in camp to test positive for the infectious disease, thus forcing him out of the main event of a February 26 Showtime tripleheader from The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Undefeated rising star Chris “Primetime” Colbert, whose mix of speed and power have quickly made him a fan favorite, will seek his first world title when he takes on WBA "regular" super featherweight champion Roger “The Kid” Gutierrez in the Showtime main event Saturday, February 26 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Showtime and PBC have finally settled on a home for their next event in queue. The February 26 edition of Showtime Championship Boxing will land at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. Headlining the show is the long ago ordered WBA junior lightweight title fight between defending beltholder Roger Gutierrez and unbeaten mandatory challenger Chris Colbert.
Chris Colbert will get his opportunity to legitimize himself as a 130-pound world champion February 26. BoxingScene.com has learned that a 12-round bout between Brooklyn’s Colbert and WBA world super featherweight champion Roger Gutierrez will headline a “Showtime Championship Boxing” event that night. The site for the card headlined by Gutierrez-Colbert hadn’t been solidified as of Tuesday afternoon.
