Robert Easter: record, next fight and profile →
LOS ANGELES – Adrien Broner was supposed to attend the final press conference Thursday for the Mikey Garcia-Robert Easter Jr. fight. Easter wasn’t the least bit surprised Broner missed his flight and the press conference. “He’s always missing his flight,” a laughing Easter told BoxingScene.com following the press conference. “What’s new?”
There is plenty of chatter about the future plans of WBC lightweight titlist Mikey Garcia, who faces IBF belt-holder, Robert Easter, in what is an anticipated unification bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles this weekend. Garcia himself has spoken of moving up to welterweight to challenge IBF champion Errol Spence.
LOS ANGELES – It isn’t just the oddsmakers Kevin Cunningham feels have disrespected Robert Easter Jr. Easter’s new trainer doesn’t think Mikey Garcia considers Easter a legitimate threat to his unblemished record, either. Cunningham claimed during a press conference Thursday at The Congo Room that Garcia has overlooked Easter by regularly discussing potential future fights against Errol Spence Jr. and Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Robert Easter Jr. realizes he didn’t look particularly good in his last fight. Easter also is convinced that subpar performance was more a reflection of him than Javier Fortuna. Had he fought the way he should’ve fought Fortuna by using his five-inch height advantage and an even longer reach edge, Easter believes he would’ve won their 12-round fight convincingly.

The feeling within Robert Easter Jr.’s camp is that Mikey Garcia is looking past the unbeaten IBF lightweight champion. Garcia has openly discussed possible future fights against lightweight champ Vasiliy Lomachenko and welterweight champions Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford during the buildup toward his lightweight title unification fight versus Easter.
