Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is hoping a deal gets finalized for a highly anticipated mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. - either in May or June. If the deal falls through, there are a few possibilities for Pacquiao's next fight.
One of those possibilities is British superstar Amir Khan (30-3, 19KOs), who moved up to welterweight in 2014 and picked up impressive wins over former champions Luis Collazo and Devon Alexander.
Khan was once trained by Roach and shared training camps with Pacquiao. The two boxers were even sparring partners. Khan made a change and hired Virgil Hunter as his head trainer in 2012.
Roach thinks there are better options out there for Pacquiao, like WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17KOs).
"I do hear [Khan's] name and so forth. They have boxed in the gym before. Khan does well early and Manny does well late. It's a very interesting fight, but the thing is I think there are a couple of better opponents out there. I like Danny Garcia because he's a game guy, he comes to fight, he's a good puncher, he can knock you out with one punch, he's dangerous - I think that's a better fight. Amir Khan is just fast and I think he would run from Manny a little bit too much and it would be boring," Roach told BoxingScene.com.
