Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach has backed Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26KOs) as being the best fighter of this era.

Roach is the longtime trainer of Manny Pacquiao, who was Mayweather's career rival. After six years of hype, the two fighters finally faced each other on May 2nd, with Mayweather winning a twelve round unanimous decision.

Mayweather retired in September after dominating Andre Berto.

In terms of accomplishments, both fighters had top of the line success. Pacquiao had eight divisional titles, Mayweather had five. Pacquiao had more exciting fights but lost six times and had two draws, and Mayweather walked away as an undefeated fighter. Both of them faced the best fighters of their divisions.

Pacquiao plans to retire after his upcoming fight on April 9th.

"Manny had eight world titles and a lot of great opponents and so forth. Mayweather had the same, had a great career and undefeated, so I guess we're going to have to give it to Mayweather - but Manny was a lot more exciting for the fans. Mayweather had no losses and so forth, so he's probably the king of this era," Roach said.
