Richardson Hitchins: record, next fight and profile →
If you simply listened to oddsmakers and fans, they’ll have you believe that Edwin De Los Santos is a good fighter, very good even. But on the elite level? Not a chance.
Devin Haney hasn’t had a single fight at 140 pounds, but the work he’s put in at 135 pounds is something Lenny Wilson, head trainer of Richardson Hitchins, simply can’t ignore.
Up until this point, Richardson Hitchins was expected to win. He was a star in the amateur game and looked incredibly skillful during his brief career. Hitchins though, wanted to be thrown into the deep end.
Candidly, things got a bit too easy for Richardson Hitchins. His opponents often talked a good game but once the bell rang, they found themselves swinging at air and leaving the ring with a face full of bruises.
If we're talking strictly skills, Richardson Hitchins had the edge. The tools in his toolbox are about as sharp as you can find. He also has things that you simply can’t teach. Yet, even with his speed and obvious natural talent, Jose Zepeda was expected to push Hitchins. Officially, the 25-year-old went from the kitty side of the pool to the deep end.
Richardson Hitchins smiled at those who questioned whether or not he was ready to take his career to the next level. His talent was undeniable but with less than 20 fights under his belt, taking on a veteran like Jose Zepeda might’ve been more than he could chew. Hitchins, through it all, was never worried about what the former title challenger could bring to the table. Simply put, the one-time Olympian knew that he would dominate. He was right.

ORLANDO – Richardson Hitchins maintained his perfect pro record versus his most experienced foe to date. The 2016 Olympian for Haiti and current rising junior welterweight contender boxed his way to a comfortable, if dull, unanimous decision over former three-time title challenger Jose ‘Chon’ Zepeda. Scores were 120-108, 120-108 and 119-109 for Hitchins in their DAZN-aired main event Saturday from Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Florida.
ORLANDO – Richardson Hitchins has spent his entire career awaiting this moment. The rise to contention for the unbeaten junior welterweight has largely been spent in supporting capacity. That changes this weekend for Brooklyn’s Hitchins, who headlines a DAZN show in his biggest test to date versus former title challenger Jose ‘Chon’ Zepeda. Their scheduled twelve-round bout takes place Saturday at Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Florida.
ORLANDO – Jose Zepeda did not come to serve as a stepping stone. That is the message that the former title challenger verbally delivered and which he hopes to display in the ring. California’s Zepeda believes he is ready as can be expected for his crossroads bout versus Brooklyn’s Richardson Hitchins this Saturday on DAZN from Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.
