Ricardo Mayorga Under Review, Sanctions Loom Over Last Fight

By Pablo Fletes, notifight.com

Last Saturday in Laredo, Texas, former two-division world champion Ricardo Mayorga (32-11-1, 26 KOs) was knocked out by local fighter Rodolfo "Cobrita" Gomez in a contest where the veteran boxer, 45-years-old, looked like a shell of his former self.

But beyond the result, the director of the Nicaraguan Institute of Sports (IND), Marlon Torres, recommended to the authorities of the Nicaraguan Professional Boxing Commission (Conibop) to analyze the case of Mayorga, because he is a 45-year-old veteran who is exposing his physical health, and he's not arriving in good condition to his boxing commitments.

In addition, Mayorga fought in Texas without Conibop's permission, which could result in a sanction and, therefore, a possible definitive retirement from professional boxing and recommendations to the commissions of other countries to prevent Mayorga from fighting.

The issue with Mayorga was raised at a recent meeting of the Boxing Commission, but no decision was made immediately.

It will be a matter to be discussed at the level of the Board of Directors, but the same concern is being voiced by the Director of the IND, Marlon Torres, and a report would likely get sent to the Presidency of the Republic, because Mayorga supposedly receives support from the Government, which could provoke a sanction for the former welterweight and super welterweight champion.

In Nicaragua, the issue of Mayorga has generated controversy at the level of sports news and obviously on social networks, but so far the authorities have not taken action on the matter to perhaps recommend the definitive withdrawal of a fighter who during his time was a fine fighter, but over the years his performances have significantly declined.

At the meeting, promoter Marcelo Sanchez also requested a sanction for Mayorga, as he went to fight in Texas without permission from the Commission. Sanchez presented a letter requesting the sanction, as sanctions are handed down to other fighters who leave to fight abroad without permission.

Mayorga retired earlier this year, but then announced that he was returning a few weeks later to take this contest in Texas.

If only he would quit smoking, drink beer, eat sh*t and slap Mosley's woman's ass, he could still win a world title.
