Reymart Gaballo: record, next fight and profile →
Four months after he withdrew from a “Showtime Championship Boxing” main event versus John Riel Casimero, Nonito Donaire has been scheduled to fight another fellow Filipino on Showtime.
Devin Haney remains on the hunt for his next title defense while the last two opponents he has expected to fight are instead ordered to face each other. Four mandatory title fights and eliminators were revealed by the World Boxing Council (WBC) as either in progress or due to be ordered. Among the lot is a potential lightweight clash between Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18KOs) and former IBF junior lightweight titlist Joseph Diaz (32-1-1, 15KOs), with the bout in discussion for weeks and now coming with the WBC’s blessing.
Australia's Jason "Mayhem" Moloney, 21-2, was last in the ring on Halloween night against Japan's Naoya Inoue, one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing. The fight earned the pair the (JBC) Japanese Boxing Commission's Fight of The Year.
A disputed outcome in one of the final fights of 2020 will have a chance for redemption or validation in the new year. The World Boxing Council (WBC) has ordered an interim bantamweight title fight rematch between Reymart Gaballo and Emmanuel Rodriguez, the Mexico City-headquartered sanctioning body announced on Monday. The two fought on Dec. 19th in a makeshift main event on Showtime, with Gaballo claiming a highly questionable 12-round split decision victory to win the interim title at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The WBC has reinstated Nordine Oubaali as its bantamweight world champion, eliminating the “champion in recess” tag it had given him in mid-November after he came down with Covid-19 and was forced to drop out of a title defense against former champion and mandatory challenger Nonito Donaire.
Former WBO bantamweight champion Emmanuel Rodriguez is still shocked that he came out on the losing end of a twelve round split decision, in Saturday's fight with undefeated Filipino Reymart Gaballo.

Until about two weeks ago, Emmanuel Rodriguez wasn’t even expecting to fight Reymart Gaballo. There now comes a likely scenario where he can wind up facing the unbeaten Filipino for a second straight time. The former bantamweight titlist plans to officially appeal the outcome of their 12-round interim title fight Saturday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Rodriguez was deemed to have won the fight with room to spare according to home viewers and the Showtime broadcast team, only to be dealt a highly questionable 12-round split decision defeat to Gaballo in their main event.
Emmanuel Rodriguez should have ended a lengthy layoff and his 2020 campaign on a high note. It instead concluded in despair along with arguably one of the worst in-ring decisions of the year. Reymart Gaballo prevailed over Puerto Rico’s Emmanuel Rodriguez in their interim title fight Saturday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The unbeaten contender from General Santos City, Philippines prevailed by split decision in a verdict that was not at all well received by the viewing audience or the Showtime broadcast team.
