LAS VEGAS – Robert Easter Jr. somehow continued to make the lightweight limit pretty easily Friday. The 5-feet-11 Easter, unusually tall for the 135-pound division, stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at 133½ pounds for his fight Saturday night against Rances Barthelemy. The Cuban-born Barthelemy officially weighed 135 pounds.
With big changes in their respective corners, former world champions Robert Easter Jr. and Rances Barthelemy will rely on the services of new but familiar head trainers as they clash for the vacant WBA Lightweight Title tomorrow on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT) from The Chelsea inside of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Rances Barthelemy mostly remained respectful toward Robert Easter Jr. on Thursday. Barthelemy’s trainer, former two-division champion Joel Casamayor, offered a much more provocative prediction ahead of their lightweight title fight Saturday night. Casamayor called a knockout victory for Barthelemy, who’s about a 4-1 underdog against the former IBF lightweight champion.
