Rances Barthelemy: record, next fight and profile →
Former two-division world champion Rances Barthelemy takes on All Rivera in a 10-round welterweight match headlining FS1 PBC Fight Night and on FOX Deportes this Saturday, January 30 from Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
Rances Barthelemy hopes to throw his first shots of 2021 on January 30. This clash would be an intermediate step before a fight for a World Boxing Association belt at 140 pounds against Alberto Puello. This clash with Puello fell out on a couple of occasions, first due to the impact of the coronavirus and then due to visa problems for the Dominican champion, who in December won a voluntary fight and is now waiting for the Cuban boxer to get a win on the undercard to Caleb Plant's defense of the IBF super middleweight title against Caleb Truax.
The fight between interim junior welterweight world titlist Alberto Puello and former titlist Rances Barthelemy, which was scheduled as the co-feature of the Premier Boxing Champions card on Fox on Sept. 6, has been called off because the Dominican Republic’s Puello has issues with his visa, a source with knowledge of the situation told BoxingScene on Monday night.
While the COVID-19 has slowed down the boxing world, Rances Barthelemy (27-1-1) still has big plans for 2020 and also for 2021. First up on his agenda is a September 6th showdown against WBA interim super lightweight champion Alberto Puello (17-0). The fight takes place on the televised undercard of the Yordenis Ugas-Abel Ramos Premier Boxing Champions on FOX broadcast.
Yordenis Ugas will get his shot September 6 to win a secondary title and move into position to fight another elite welterweight. FOX and PBC announced Saturday night during its tripleheader that Ugas and Abel Ramos will meet in the main event of a three bout-broadcast the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Ugas and Ramos will fight for the vacant WBA world welterweight title in their 12-rounder.
With shows being canceled at an alarming rate, there now stands the likelihood of a number of previously scheduled bouts not making the cut once the sport is able to resume at full strength. Included among that lot is the voluntary title defense planned by David Benavidez, who could be forced to enter straight into a mandatory title defense.
Undefeated WBC Super Middleweight World Champion Davíd "El Bandera Roja" Benavidez will defend his title on Saturday, April 18 in his hometown of Phoenix, Ariz. against former world title challenger Roamer Alexis Angulo, live on SHOWTIME from Arizona Federal Theatre headlining a Premier Boxing Champions event.
BoxingScene.com has been advised that former two-division champion Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy (27-1-1) will return to the ring on March 28th in Las Vegas against WBA interim super lightweight champion Alberto Puello (17-0). The fight will likely land at Park MGM and will headline a Premier Boxing Champions card on Showtime.
LAS VEGAS - In April former champions Rances Barthelmey and Robert Easter Jr. battled to a draw in an uneventful fight that was televised by Showtime. The vacant WBA "regular" lightweight tile was at stake. According to Barthelemy, the title will remain vacant because Easter does not want to face him again.
