Photos: Sam Eggington Suffers Shocking TKO Defeat in Two

Sam Eggington suffered a shock defeat in what was classed as a warm up.

The Stourbridge super-welterweight was expected rid of Tanzania's Hassan Mwakinyo inside the distance.

Eggington was then meant to head back to the gym to prepare for a showdown with Brandon Rios.

He would have faced the American on September 22 at Wembley Stadium in London, exclusively live on Sky Sports’ Box Office pay-per-view platform.

The fight would have come just 14 days after ‘Savage’s’ victory at the Arena Birmingham, exclusively live on Sky Sports.

But the 23-year-old visitor shocked the arena and Eggington –– as well as the supporting cast to Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight title showdown against Alexander Povetkin –– by putting on the pressure in the opener.

Luckily, Eggington managed to see out the opener, but the referee Mark Lyson had seen enough in the second, leading to jubilant scenes and ecstasy for Mwakinyo.

Also on the Khan vs. Vargas undercard, Jason Welborn retained his British middleweight title with a decision victory.

He outpointed Tommy Langford, who was down twice in the contest and had to survive a late onslaught from the champion in the final stanza, in their rematch as the three scoring judges turned in respective tallies of 113-114, 114-113 and 115-115.
young and taking the fight on a weeks notice, this kid may not be top contender class yet but he looked good in this fight. If he could successfully go down to 147, he might be a top 10 welterweight.
…

It is safe to say that Malignaggi ruined Eggington and cracked his chin.
