The 24-year-old took just eight months to win the crown he snatched away from Robbie Barrett last year.

‘The Sandman’ secured defences against Joe Murray and Scott Cardle, in a combined three rounds earlier this year – in February and March – and he looked superb at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle against his mandatory challenger Paul Hyland Jr.

The Belfast challenger came out and fought fire with fire in the early stages of the opener, but that proved to be his downfall as he was dropped three times.

Josh Kelly scored a retirement victory to add to his title tally.

The former Team GB Olympian picked up Kris George’s Commonwealth welterweight title.

Kelly is now seven from seven as a pro with six early after the Australian was withdrawn by his corner at the end of the seventh round, exclusively live on Sky Sports.

Gavin McDonnell ensured his upward curve continued after securing a clear win.

The former WBC super-bantamweight title challenger outpointed Stuart Hall to retain his fringe title.

McDonnell produced a career-best performance last time out against Gamal Yafai.

Charlie Edwards once again called out Kal Yafai after the best display of his career.

The former British super-flyweight and ex-English flyweight king wants a crack at the WBA world champion.

Edwards, 25, knocked out Anthony Nelson inside three rounds

Ricky Burns reached the half-century in the paid ranks with a triumph.

The Coatbridge man, a former three-weight global ruler, was in action for the first time since last October’s defeat to Anthony Crolla.

Burns, now 35, got the ring rust off with a win over Ivan Njegac by retirement after the Croatian was pulled out by his corner at the start of round number five.
