Staples Center, Los Angeles, California - In a battle of Youtube stars at the cruiserweight limit, KSI (1-0) won a six round split decision over Logan Paul (0-1) in what was a rough fight with a lot of wild punches, holding and illegal tactics. The scores were 56-55 for Paul, 57-54 for KSI, 56-55 for KSI. (photos by Ed Mulholland)
Both men were making their professional debut. They fought to a draw in an amateur fight, which took place last year at the Manchester Arena in Manchester.
To prepare for the fight, Paul was trained by former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs, while KSI was trained by Viddal Riley and assisted by veteran coach Jeff Mayweather, a former fighter and the uncle of five division champion Floyd Mayweather.
Both boxers came out jabbing. KSI was pressing forward and looking for big shots. KSI was throwing a lot of big shots, most were not landing or connecting clean. Paul was mostly sticking to the jab.
Paul continued to jab in the second, with KSI landing the more flashier shots and he was busier. In the third, there was a moment where KSI cracked Paul to the side of the head and put him down - but the referee missed the punch and waved it off as a slip. KSI was very busy in the round.
There was controversy in the fourth round, Paul dropped KSI with an uppercut but then hit him while he was down. The referee counted the knockdown, but then took two points away from Paul.
Paul was doing better in the fifth, as KSI was now tired and Paul was applying pressure. KSI was a bit more aggressive in the sixth round. He was coming forward and taking the fight to Paul.
