Jayson 'La Maravilla' Velez (26-5-1, 18KO's) and Orlando 'El Fenomeno' Cruz (25-6-2, 13KO's) met the weight required in the first pre-weighin held this morning at the Professional Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico, for the combat involving the NABA-USA Super Featherweight Championship (130 pounds) of the World Boxing Association (WBA), which will be held on Saturday, September 22 at the Rafael G. Amalbert Coliseum of Juncos, Puerto Rico.
Velez stepped on the scale at 144.6 pounds and Cruz did the same at 141.0 pounds. Both fighters had to meet the maximum allowed weight of 149.5 pounds (15% over 130 pounds) a month before their meeting.
"We are feeding ourselves well, doing things correctly, and every day feeling in better condition," Velez said. "I'm ready to do my job on September 22 before my Juncos people. Before I thought that Cruz would take me the distance, but the way I feel, this fight will not reach the limit. It's the 'Age of Wonder' and we're ready for the night of hunting. "
Meanwhile, Cruz mentioned that "I'm getting comfortable with the weight and I'm eating well. It is an excellent training camp, one of the best in my career. This will be a great fight. I'll be back and I'll return with a victory.
