Petros Ananyan: record, next fight and profile →
King's Promotions is proud to announce the signing of United States amateur star Atid Oberlton to an exclusive promotional contract. The 22 year-old Philadelphia was the number-two ranked light heavyweight in the United States and was a favorite to be part of the United States Olympic team, but he decided to turn his attention to the paid ranks.
Last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, it should have been a showcase for top junior welterweight contender Subriel Matias (15-1, 15 KOs). The boxer had just signed a multi-fight deal with Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions, who placed him on the undercard of the highly anticipated rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.
LAS VEGAS – Petros Ananyan pulled of a huge upset Saturday on the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury undercard. The unknown Armenian veteran scored a knockdown against Puerto Rican knockout artist Subriel Matias late in the seventh round and beat him by unanimous decision in a 10-round welterweight fight at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Each judge – Lisa Giampa (95-94), Patricia Morse Jarman (96-93) and Don Trella (95-94) – scored their fight for Ananyan (15-2-2, 7 KOs), who won a unanimous decision.
Subriel Matias can’t think of a better way to bide his time for a title shot than with a showcase appearance on the biggest card of the year. The unbeaten knockout artist from the Maternillo section of Fajardo, Puerto Rico is set for his first fight under the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) banner, coming in supporting capacity to the title fight rematch between unbeaten heavyweights Deontay Wilder (42-0-1, 41KOs) and Tyson Fury (29-0-1, 20KOs). The show takes place Saturday evening at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, with Matias’ bout appearing on the televised undercard to be carried by ESPN and FS1 prior to the four-fight Pay-Per-View telecast.

Kareem Martin kept the good fortunes going for head trainer Calvin Ford, though fending off a late run by Petros Ananyan to score a majority decision. Scores were 76-76 even and 78-74 twice in favor of Martin in their eight-round junior welterweight bout Saturday evening at State Farm Arena. The early action saw Martin work his jab over the top of Ananyan’s low defensive guard. The Washington D.C. product consistently beat Ananyan to the punch, mixing in occasional right hands which didn’t have quite as much impact as the accompanying grunt he offered with every thrown punch.
Silverio Ortiz has done it again. A multi-fight 34-year old veteran from Merida, Mexico, got another upset of a raw newbie - this time against 7-0 Russian Ramzan Baysarov - to get a points win over ten heated rounds.
Former WBA flyweight king (and not the worst one - by far!) Lorenzo Parra (32-6-2, 19 KOs), who scored road wins over such fighters as Takefumi Sakata (twice), Eric Morel, Brahim Asloum and Yo Sam Choi, and drew with multidivision world champion Jorge Arce on his turf, continued his sad journey of a famed trialhorse. Parra, 38, was dropped no less than six times - once in the 4th round, thrice in the fifth stanza, and two times in the sixth - in a six-rounder against Russian welterweight champion Petros Ananyan but summoned all what was left of his better self to somehow survive until the final bell. Scores were: 60-51, 60-50, and 60-48 - for Ananyan, who improves to 10-0-2, 5 KOs.
