Pavel Malikov: record, next fight and profile →
Two unbeaten fighters kept their records intact and thus went one step closer to a desired world championship fight this past Saturday in a card put together by German Titov’s RCC Boxing Promotions in Lyubertsy, Russia.
A familiar figure is back into the title mix after several years of obscurity, as former world title challenger and former two-time, two-division (featherweight and lightweight) IBO champion Daud "Cino" Yordan (38-3, 26 KOs) completely destroyed Russian lightweight champion Pavel Malikov with a devastating body shot to acquire the WBO I|C lightweight belt and, more importantly, a right to face the WBA 135lb champion, as the fight was billed the WBA lightweight title eliminator.
German Titov, and his son Alexey, are prepared for yet another huge local show, which is about to take place at the DIVS in Ekaterinburg, Russia, under RCC Boxing Promotions, on April 22. As always, the card will feature a number of competitive bouts – at least on paper – and a chance to witness a rise of a new generation of fighters.
In an upset Friday, cruiserweight/heavyweight journeyman Yuri Bykhovtsev of Belarus added another victim to his hit list. Bykhovtsev spoiled the record of Russian heavyweight Gasan Gimbatov (3-1, 2 KOs) after a timid six-rounder on the Alexander Povetkin-Christian Hammer undercard in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
Ekaterinburg, the jewel of Ural, is getting ready for one of its biggest cards in history on December 15. There will be no major title fights – as was the case several years ago when then-WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog competed in the biggest city nearside the virtual border between Europe and Asia. Instead of making a single high-profile attraction, local promotional stalwart German Titov, now partnering his son Alexey, who continues the dynasty, will put up a well-packed show with no less than nine perfectly matched-up fights.
