Joseph Parker was significantly heavier Friday for his rematch with Dereck Chisora than he weighed for their first fight.
Chisora took the opposite approach to their second meeting Saturday night at AO Arena in Manchester, England. He came in a little lighter than he was when he suffered a 12-round, split-decision defeat to Parker on May 1.
The 29-year-old Parker, a former WBO heavyweight champion from Auckland, New Zealand, stepped onto the British Boxing Board of Control’s scale at 251 pounds, almost 10 pounds heavier than the 241¼ pounds he weighed for their first fight. The 37-year-old Chisora, a London resident raised in Zimbabwe, officially weighed 248½ pounds, exactly two fewer pounds than he weighed for their initial meeting (250½ pounds).
DAZN will stream the Parker-Chisora rematch as the main event of a card Saturday. That streaming service’s coverage is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. GMT and 1 p.m. ET.
Chisora surprisingly dropped Parker early in the first round seven months ago. Parker recovered quickly, though, and got right back into their back-and-forth fight.
Parker beat Chisora on two of three scorecards (116-111, 115-113, 113-115) in the main event of a card that also took place at AO Arena. Chisora complained that his 11th loss was unjust, which helped him land an immediate rematch.
Chisora (32-11, 23 KOs) has lost back-to-back bouts to Parker and newly crowned IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs), who defeated Chisora by unanimous decision in their 12-rounder in October 2020 at Wembley Arena in London. He is 3-3 in his past six fights, including a brutal 11th-round knockout defeat to rival Dillian Whyte in December 2018, but he remains one of the better heavyweights in the sport.
Parker (29-2, 21 KOs) has won five consecutive fights since he lost back-to-back 12-round unanimous decisions to former IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO champ Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) and Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) in 2018.
