Feb 2 - Salvador Sanchez stops Danny Lopez, 13 rounds, Phoenix, to win WBC featherweight title.

March 16 - Alan Minter defeats Vito Antuofermo, 15 rounds, Tokyo, to win middleweight title

March 31 - Mike Weaver, far behind on points, puts John Tate on his face in the 15th round, Knoxville, to win WBA heavyweight title.

March 31 - Eddie Gregory stops Marvin Johnson, 11 rounds, to win WBA light heavyweight title, Knoxville. Afterward Gregory changes his name to Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.

June 20 - Roberto Duran defeats Ray Leonard, 15 rounds, Montreal, to win WBC welter title.

July 13 - Matthew Saad Muhammad, surviving an  incredible beating in the eight round, comes back to floor Yaqui Lopez four times, stopping him in 14 rounds, McAfee, new jersey, to retain WBC light heavyweight title.

Aug 2 - Thomas Hearns destroys Pipino Cuevas, two rounds, Detroit, to win WBA welter title.

Aug 2 - Aaron Pryor KOs Antonio Cervantes, four rounds, Cincinnati, to win WBA jr. welter title.

Sept 19 - Lupe Pintor stops Johnny Owen, 12 rounds, Los Angeles, to retain WBC bantam title. Owen dies from head injuries 45 days later.

Sept 27 - marvin Hagler stops Alan Minter, three rounds, London, to win middleweight title

Oct 2 - Larry Holmes stops Muhammad Ali, 11 rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBC heavyweight title.

Oct 26 - Former WBA light heavyweight champion Victor Galindez, 31, dies during mishap in auto race, De Mayor, Argentina.

Nov 25 - Ray Leonard makes Roberto Duran quit in their famous "No Mas" rematch, eight rounds, New Orleans.

1981

Jan 11 - Bazooka Limon stops Idelfonso Bethelmy, 15 rounds, to win vacant WBC jr. lightweight title.

April 11- Larry Holmes defeats Trevor Berbick, 15 rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBC heavyweight title.

April 12 - Former heavyweight champion Joe Louis dies, 66, in Las Vegas.

April 12 - Sean O'Grady defeats Hillmer Kenty, 15 rounds, Atlantic City, to win WBA lightweight title.

May 11 - Gerry Cooney stops Ken Norton, one round, New York..

May 23 - Wilfred Benitez KOs Maurice Hope, 12 rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBC jr. middleweight title.

June 12 - Larry Holmes stops Leo Spinks, three rounds, Detroit, to retain heavyweight title.

June 20 - Alexis Arguello defeats Jim Watt, 15 rounds, London, to win WBC lightweight title.

July 9 - William (Caveman) Lee gets off canvas to KO John LoCicero, five rounds, Detroit, in "Fight of the Year"

July 18 - Michael Spinks defeats Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, 15 rounds, Las Vegas, to win WBA light heavyweight title.

Aug 21 - Salvador Sanchez KOs previously unbeaten WBC jr. featherweight champion Wilfredo Gomez, eight rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBC featherweight title.

Sept 16 - Ray Leonard, his left eye almost closed, rallies to stop Thomas Hearns, 14 rounds, Las Vegas, to unify welter titles.

Oct 3 - Alexis Arguello stops Ray Mancini, 14 rounds, Atlantic City, to retain WBC lightweight title.

Nov 6 - Larry Holmes gets off the canvas to stop Renaldo Snipes, 11 rounds, Pittsburgh, to retain WBC heavyweight title.

Dec 11 - Muhammad Ali ends career with a decision loss to Trevor Berbick, 10 rounds, Nassau.

Dec 19 - Dwight Braxton stops Matthew Saad Muhammad, 10 rounds, Atlantic City, to win WBC light heavyweight title. Braxton later changes his name to Dwight Muhammad Qawi.

1982

Jan 30 - Wilfred Benitez defeats Roberto Duran, 15 rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBC jr. middleweight title.

May 8 - Ray Mancinci stops Art Frias, one round, Las Vegas, to win WBA lightweight title.

June 11 - Larry Holmes stops Gerry Cooney, 13 rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBC heavyweight title.

July 21 - Salvador Sanchez stop Azumah Nelson, 15 rounds, New York, to retain WBC featherweight title.

 Aug 12 - WBC featherweight champion, Salvador Sanchez, 23, is killed in auto accident, Mexico City.

Sept 4 - Kirkland Laing upsets Roberto Duran over 10 rounds, Detroit.

Nov 9 - Welter champ Ray Leonard, 25, announces retirement from boxing.

Nov 12 - In one of the decade's greatest fights, Aaron Pryor absorbs Alexis Arguellos' rights to the chin, then come back to stop Arguello, 14 rounds, Miami.

Nov 13 - Ray Mancini stops Deuk-Koo Kim, 14 rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBA lightweight title. Kim lapses into a coma, dying five days later.

Dec 3 - Wilfredo Gomez stops Lupe Pintor, 14 rounds, New Orleans, to retain WBC jr. featherweight title.

Dec 3 - Thomas Hearns defeats Wilfred Benitez, 15 rounds, to win WBC jr. middleweight title.

Dec 10 - Michael Dokes stops Mike Weaver, one round, Las Vegas, to win WBA heavyweight title.

Dec 11 - Bobby Chacon, down twice, come back to floor Bazooka Limon in the closing seconds to take a 15 round decision, Sacramento, to win WBC jr. lightweight title.

1983

Jan 19 - Roger Mayweather KO Samuel Serrano, eight rounds, to win WBA jr. lightweight title.

Jan 29 - Roberto Duran KOs Pipino Cuevas, four rounds, Los Angeles.

Jan 31 - In the first WBC title fight scheduled for 12 rounds, Rafael Orono KOs Pedro Romero, four rounds, Caracas, to retain WBC jr. bantam title.

March 18 - Michael Spinks defeats Dwight Qawi, 15 rounds, Atlantic City, to unify light heavyweight titles.

May 27 - Marvin Hagler KOs Wilford Scypion, four rounds, Providence, to retain middleweight title. It is the first title bout sanctioned by the USBA/International, soon to be the International boxing Federation (IBF).

May 31 - Former heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey dies at age 87 in New York.

June 16 - Roberto Duran stops Davey Moore, eight rounds, New York, to win WBA jr. middleweight title.

Aug 7 - Hector Camacho stops Bazooka Limon, five rounds, San Juan, to win vacant WBC jr. lightweight title

Sept 1- Albert Davila stops Kiko Bejines, 12 rounds, Los Angeles, to win vacant WBC bantam title. Bejines dies of head injuries three days later.

Sept 9 - Aaron Pryor stops Alexis Arguello, 10 rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBA jr. welter title.

Jan 14 - Ray Mancini stops Bobby Chacon, three rounds, Reno, to retain WBA lightweight title.

March 9 - Tim Witherspoon defeats Greg Page, 2 rounds, Las Vegas, to win vacant WBA heavyweight title

March 31 - Wilfredo Gomez defeats Juan LaPorte, 12 rounds, Hato Rey, P.R., to win WBC featherweight title.

May 11 - Ray Leonard, floored for the first time in his career, gets up to stop Kevin Howard, nine rounds, Worcester, Mass, then promptly re-retires.

June 1 - Livingstone Bramble stops Ray Mancini, 14 rounds, Buffalo, to win WBA lightweight title.

June 15 - Thomas Hearns scores one of the most stunning KOs in ring history, flattening Roberto Duran, two rounds, Las Vegas , to retain WBC jr. middleweight title.

Aug 31 - Pinklon Thomas defeats Tim Witherspoon, 12 rounds, Las Vegas, to win WBC heavyweight title.

Sept 13 - Julio Cesar Chavez stops Mario Martinez, eight rounds, Los Angeles, to win vacant WBC jr. middleweight title.

Oct 19 - Mike McCallum  defeats Sean Mannion, 15 rounds, to win vacant WBA jr. middleweight title, new York.

Nov 9 - Larry Holmes stops Bonecrusher Smith, 12 rounds, Las Vegas, t retain IBF heavyweight title.

Dec 1 - Greg Page KOs Gerrie Coetzee, eight rounds, Sun City, to win WBA heavyweight title.

Dec 8 - Azumah Nelson KOs Wilfredo Gomez, 11 rounds, San Juan, to win WBC featherweight title.

1985

March 23 - Mike Tyson turns pro with a first round KO of Hector Mercedes, Albany , New York.

April 15 - Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns explode at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. after the greatest first round in recent history, the two unloading nothing but heavy artillery, Hagler bleeding badly from a cut over the right eye, stops Hearns in the third round to retain middleweight title.

April 26 - Jeff Fenech stops Satoshi Shingaki, nine rounds, Moore Park, Australia, to win IBF bantam title.

April 29 - Tony Tubbs defeats Greg Page, 15 rounds, Buffalo, to win WBA heavyweight title.

May 4 - Daniel Zaragoza defeats Freddie jackson, DQ, seven rounds, Oranjestad, Aruba, to win vacant WBC bantam title.

May 19 - Wilfredo Gomez wins holy-disputed 15 round split decision from Rocky Lockridge, Hato rey, P.R., to win WBA jr. lightweight title.

May 20 - Larry Holmes defeats Carl Williams, 15 rounds, Reno, to retain IBF heavyweight title.

July 7 - Julio Cesar Chavez stops Roger mayweather, two rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBC jr. lightweight title.

July 27 - Dwight Qawi stops Piet Crous, 11 rounds, Sun city, to win WBA cruiser title.

Aug 10 - Hector Camacho defeats Jose Luis Ramirez, 12 rounds, Las Vegas, to win WBC lightweight title.

Aug 18 - Lupe Pintor defeats Juan Meza, 12 rounds, Mexico City, to win WBC junior featherweight title.

Sept 21 - Michael Spinks becomes the first light heavyweight champion to dethrone a reigning heavyweight champion by defeating Larry Holmes, 15 rounds, Las Vegas, for the IBF heavyweight title.

Dec 6 - Donald Curry KOs Milton McCory, two rounds, to unify the welterweight titles.

Jan 17 - Tim Witherspoon defeats Tony Tubbs, 15 rounds, Atlanta, to win WBA heavyweight title.

Sept 27 - Lloyd Honeygram shocks Donald Curry, stopping him after six rounds, to win welter title, Atlantic City.

Nov 22 - Mike Tyson, 20, becomes the youngest heavyweight champion in ring history by stopping Trevor Berbick, two rounds, Las Vegas, to win WBC heavyweight title.

Dec 5 - Greg Haugen defeats Jimmy Paul, 15 rounds, to win IBF lightweight title, Las Vegas.

Dec 12 - Bonecrusher Smith stops Tim Witherspoon, one round, New York, to win WBA heavyweight title.

March 9 - George Foreman ends a 10 year retirement by stopping Steve Zouski, four rounds , Sacramento.

April 6 - Ray Leonard in his first fight in nearly three years, takes a split decision victory from Marvin Hagler, 12 rounds, Las Vegas, to win WBC middleweight title.

May 8 - Jeff fenech KOs Smart Payakaroon, four rounds, Sydney, to win WBC jr. feather weight title.

May 15 - Evander Holyfield stops Rickey Parkey, three rounds, LAS Vegas to unify WBA/IBF cruiser titles.

May 30 - Tony Tucker stops Buster Douglas, 10 rounds, to win vacant IBF title, Las Vegas.

June 7 - Vinny Pazienza defeats Greg Haugen , 15 rounds, Providence, to win IBF lightweight title.

July 18 - Mike McCallum loses the first four rounds, then flattens Donald Curry with one left hook to the jaw, five rounds, Las Vegas, to retain WBA jr. middleweight title.

Aug 1 - Mike Tyson defeats Tony Tucker, 12 rounds, Las Vegas, to unify the heavyweight division.

Sept 5 - Virgil Hill stops Leslie Stewart, four rounds, Atlantic City, to win WBA light heavy title.

Oct 29 - Thomas Hearns KOs Juan Roldan, four rounds, Las Vegas, to win vacant WBC middleweight title. The victory gives Hearns a fourth world title in different weight divisions.

April 12 - Former five time middleweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson dies, age 67, Culver City, calif.
