Paddy Barnes: record, next fight and profile →
Promoter Frank Warren is set to showcase the very best of Irish Boxing live on BoxNation when he returns to Belfast to promote an action-packed show at the Titanic Exhibition Centre on 5th November.
Paddy Barnes has rubber-stamped his name as a professional fighter by signing a managerial deal. The two-time Olympic bronze medallist, who was Ireland’s flag-bearer at Rio 2016 in Brazil, had a glittering amateur career but has made the decision to leave behind the vest and headguard and will instead punch for pay from now on.
Paddy Barnes has confirmed he is turning professional and leaving amateur boxing behind. Barnes, 29, competed in his third Olympics in the summer and is a two-time bronze medallist, having secured podium spots for Ireland in Beijing (2008) and London (2012) before being given the honour of being Ireland’s flag bearer at the Rio de Janeiro games earlier this year.
Paddy Barnes suffered a shock upset defeat at the Rio Games yesterday, but one of his chief supporters has claimed that the Belfast-based boxer was hard done by on the cards following his nip-and-tuck tussle with Spain’s Samuel Carmona in the 49kg division. A score of 29-28 in his favour was overturned by two lots of 29-28 to send him home much earlier than many expected.
Paddy Barnes admitted he felt a sense of relief after suffering a shock defeat in his opening bout at Riocentro as Ireland's dreadful start to the Olympic boxing competition continued.

Barnes, the two-time light-flyweight bronze medallist, dropped a split decision to Spain's Samuel Carmona in a thrilling encounter that split the ringside judges.
