Seven months removed from his first career loss, Paddy Barnes hoped to catch the luck of the Irish on the undercard of a St. Patrick’s Day card at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theatre in New York City. The two-time Bronze medalist and three-time Olympian from Ireland instead found himself in an all-out war turned disastrous in a split decision loss to Oscar Mojica.

Vladimir Nikitin and Irish sensation Michael “Mick” Conlan are on a collision course for a rematch of their quarterfinal bout from the 2016 Rio Olympics, won by Nikitin via highly controversial decision. Nikitin will fight Juan Tapia (8-2, 3 KOs) in a six-round featherweight bout on the undercard of Conlan’s 10-round featherweight tilt against Ruben Garcia Hernandez on Sunday, March 17 at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Paddy Barnes will return to the ring next month. The former WBC flyweight world title challenger has been out of action since losing at the hands of Cristofer Rosales back in August. Barnes was stopped inside four rounds at Windsor Park in Belfast, exclusively live on BT Sport, and missed out on a December return due to time constraints.
Jazza Dickens finally looks to have a dance partner for his next title fight. The former British super-bantamweight champion had been set to challenge Martin Ward, and his brother Thomas before him, for the vacant crown. But Dickens upped sticks and moved to Miami, Florida, after it was revealed that there were no fights this side of the pond for him and he even secured a first-round win .
Paddy Barnes is championing the prospect of several Belfast boxing heroes featuring at the Manchester Arena on Frank Warren’s bumper Christmas show. Olympic legend Barnes, Irish light-heavyweight king Steven Ward, former world amateur champion Michael Conlan and headliner Carl Frampton all star on the December 22 bill – live on BT Sport Box Office – as Frampton bids to relieve Josh Warrington of the IBF world featherweight title.
Olympic hero Paddy Barnes will continue to target world titles and has welcomed the support shown to him in the wake of his sole professional defeat. ‘The Leprachaun’ lost out to WBC world flyweight champion Cristofer Rosales at Windsor Park in August but remains determined to climb to the top of the paid ranks.
