Lightweight Adrian Gonzalez will return to the ring this weekend on the undercard of Saunders-Bladamura in Manchester, as he looks to continue his charge towards domestic titles.
Gonzalez will enter the ring with a record of 9-1-0 (1 KO), with one win coming early, when he takes on former Welsh Area Champion Mark Evans 9-2-1 (1 KO) at the Phones 4 U Arena.
Gonzalez told BoxingScene.com: “Camp has been great and I’m ready to fight. I’ve fought on the same show as Evans before and he hasn’t got a bad record, but I’ve got a job to do and I’m leaving the Arena with the win.
“We’re looking to move on after we’ve got past Evans, but I won’t start thinking about it probably until after the fight, because I’m not looking past him. But I do think I’ll be knocking on that door for titles after this fight.”
For Gonzalez this is really his second go at boxing after he had a two year break following his first loss against James Ancliff back in 2010.
However, since his comeback in 2012, he’s won all four of his fights and has experience of fighting in the big arenas after a spot on the undercard of Amir Khan against Julio Diaz in Sheffield last year.
He will also be looking to stay active in the next few months and claims ring rust will not affect him. “I’m always in the gym working on things and we’ve got to keep things rolling, as I’m getting better with every fight,” he said.
“I’ve got all the attributes to win this fight and we know what we have got to do to get that win. I’ve got that extra drive this time fighting in Manchester (where he resides) and there are going to be loads of fans there.
“I’ve grafted not just in camp, but selling tickets and I’ve had to make plenty of orders for more. I’m not going to let anybody down, so now it’s all about making weight and getting my game plan right.”
