Oscar Rivas: record, next fight and profile →
WE MAY BE hitting August this week – doesn’t time fly! – but the boxing beat continues on BT Sport this Saturday with a pretty much unique show from Falls Park in Belfast. An outdoor arena is being constructed for Michael’s featherweight showdown – and a decent step up in his 12th fight – against Diego Alberto Ruiz.
An "A" Sample UKAD collected from Mr. Dillian Whyte in relation with his bout against Oscar Rivas yielded an adverse finding. In light of that adverse finding, and pending the outcome of the WBC’s own investigation and adjudicatory process, the WBC is provisionally suspending the WBC’s recognition of Dillian Whyte as WBC Interim World Heavyweight Champion and Mandatory Challenger of the division.
IT HAS BEEN a dreadful, tragic and desperately sad week for the sport of boxing. The deaths of both Maxim Dadashev and Hugo Santillan provide a stark reminder, if any were needed, of the brutal landscape participants in this sport operate in. When tragedy occurs, soul-searching follows, before those involved in the game return to the genuinely held conviction that the positives of boxing heavily outweigh the mercifully rare negatives.
By Michael Rosenthal - Two deaths and another failed drug test by a well-known fighter. I can’t remember a worse week in boxing. On Saturday Maxim Dadashev and Hugo Santillan, fighting about 5,000 miles apart, received the blows that would result in their deaths days later. We also learned that heavyweight Dillian Whyte was allowed to fight Oscar Rivas on Saturday even though he had failed a drug test three days earlier, arguably putting Rivas in a vulnerable position...
WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has continued to speak out on division rival Dillian Whyte, regarding the drug testing saga with respect to Saturday's fight with Oscar Rivas. Whyte, 31, came up positive for a banned substance three days before his fight against Rivas at London's O2 Arena, which saw Whyte win on points.
Yesterday, July 24, BoxingScene.com reported that an "A" sample taken from Dillian Whyte by United Kingdom Anti-Doping (UKAD) tested positive for one or more banned substances prior to Whyte's July 20 fight in London against Oscar Rivas. BoxingScene has now confirmed that the substances were epimethandienone and hydroxymethandienone, two metabolites of the banned drug Dianabol.
Russ Anber, a member of Oscar Rivas' corner and CEO of Rival Boxing, detailed the events that prompted to their team to file an appeal with the WBC, regarding the selection of gloves by Dillian Whyte. The appeal was filed before the contest took place on Saturday night, which saw Whyte win a twelve round unanimous decision to capture the WBC interim-heavyweight title.
Deontay Wilder has reacted angrily to the news that Dillian Whyte has tested positive for a banned substance. It was reported on Wednesday that the heavyweight, who is now the mandatory challenger to Wilder’s WBC world title, tested positive for a banned substance ahead of his fight with the previously undefeated Oscar Rivas last weekend.
Multiple sources have confirmed that an "A" sample taken from Dillian Whyte tested positive for one or more banned substances prior to Whyte's July 20 fight in London against Oscar Rivas. Although Whyte is in the World Boxing Council Clean Boxing Program which is administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), the test in question was administered by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD).
