Heavy-handed super lightweights Oscar Duarte and Regis Prograis are set to clash at Honda Center

Oscar Duarte’s ascent coincides with Regis Prograis’ slide as the pair of 140-pound contenders are headed to a February 15 showdown in Anaheim, California

Oscar Duarte won a good, hard fight over late-substitute Batyr Akhmedov following 10 physical rounds. Los Angeles-based Uzbek Akhmedov pushed Duarte all the way, although he was not given credit on the scorecards, losing by margins of 98-92, 97-93 and a fairer 96-94.

A potential slugfest is brewing under the surface of Saturday night’s “Latino Night” as junior welterweight puncher Oscar Duarte faces Batyr Akhmedov, a late replacement for Duarte’s original opponent, Kenneth Sims Jnr.

Kenny Sims Jnr will not face Oscar Duarte on November 16 as part of the “Latino Night” card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The cruiserweight unification bout featuring Chris Billam-Smith vs. Gilberto Ramirez is officially set for Nov. 16 in Riyadh, part of a show that will also feature a clash between junior welterweights Jose Ramirez and Arnold Barboza, and a bout between lightweight contender William Zepeda and Tevin Farmer.

Oscar Duarte has strong opinions about the 140-pound division and his place in it. His path to reaching his intended title shot will continue Sept. 21 in Phoenix on the Jaime Munguia-Erik Bazinyan undercard.
