Oscar Duarte: record, next fight and profile →
Ryan Garcia is ready to reveal a better version of himself following his first professional loss via knockout to Gervonta Davis in April. Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) will get to showcase his skills when he takes on the hard-hitting Oscar Duarte (26-1-1, 21 KOs) on Dec. 2.
Gervonta Davis was never quite interested in fighting Ryan Garcia. It wasn’t because he was unnerved over the idea of facing him but Davis saw nothing special about the widely popular fighter. Garcia’s speed is blinding and his power is eye-catching but Davis believed he lacked substance to go along with all that flash.
Confidence has brought Ryan Garcia a long way. It’s also been his downfall. For most of his career, the 25-year-old hasn’t been pushed to his limits. Even against Luke Campbell in 2021, Garcia peeled himself up off the canvas and went on to stop his man in the seventh.
Ryan Garcia will break new ground at an old Golden Boy Promotions preferred venue for his next fight. A location was confirmed for Garcia’s upcoming junior welterweight clash versus Mexico’s Oscar Duarte. Their December 2 DAZN headliner will now land at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, as confirmed by Garcia and Golden Boy co-founder and Hall of Fame promoter Oscar De La Hoya.
Golden Boy head Oscar De La Hoya believes Ryan Garcia is being matched relatively tough for his next fight, his first since suffering the first loss of his career.
As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) will make his return to the ring against Mexico’s Oscar “La Migraña” Duarte (26-1-1, 21 KOs) on Saturday, December 2. Scheduled for 12-rounds.
BoxingScene.com has confirmed that plans are finalized for a Ryan Garcia-Oscar Duarte junior welterweight bout to headline a December 2 DAZN show from Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Golden Boy chairman and co-founder Oscar De La Hoya revealed the plans to ESPN.com’s Mike Coppinger for Garcia’s first fight back since his lone career defeat and as the two sides remain in a legal battle.
Ryan Garcia will return to the ring before the end of the year. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Golden Boy Promotions has holds at venues in at least two states for a planned November 18 featuring the top star in its stable. Mexico’s Oscar Duarte is among the leading candidates to next face Garcia in a junior welterweight bout, though at least two other opponents were in the mix as this goes to publication.
Oscar Duarte returned to the site of his lone loss Saturday night and easily extended his winning streak. Mexico’s Duarte defeated D’Angelo Keyes by technical knockout on the Alexis Rocha-Anthony Young undercard at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. Duarte (26-1-1, 20 KOs) dropped Keyes twice before referee Jerry
Alexis 'Lex' Rocha continues to properly maintain his welterweight frame. The 25-year-old southpaw from Santa Ana, California was right within the tight weight range that he has enjoyed throughout his pro career spanning more than seven years. His latest trip to the scale was no exception as Rocha was 146.6 pounds for his rescheduled twelve-round contest versus Atlantic City’s Anthony 'Juice' Young, who was 146.4 pounds.
