Oscar De La Hoya: record, next fight and profile →
Triller CEO Ryan Kavanaugh believes the ring return of six division champion Oscar De La Hoya will be 'one of the biggest fights' of 2021. De La Hoya has been out of the ring since 2008, when he was battered and stopped by Manny Pacquiao in a one-sided fight. The 'Golden Boy' retired in the aftermath.
In a recent interview, former four division world champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez detailed the 2020 breakup with Golden Boy Promotions, who guided the boxer's career for over a decade. Last year, Canelo sued Golden Boy and streaming platform DAZN, to break away from his existing contracts with both entities.
According to former UFC and Bellator MMA champion Eddie Alvarez, who is now under contract with ONE Championship in Singapore, says a potential boxing match with Oscar De La Hoya is a "dead issue."
Ryan Garcia’s promoter expressed support Saturday after the popular lightweight withdrew from his upcoming fight. Oscar De La Hoya, whose company promotes Garcia, stated on Twitter that Garcia’s health is of “utmost importance” to those at Golden Boy Promotions. Garcia alluded to health issues with which he is dealing in an Instagram post Saturday, but the 22-year-old contender didn’t specify exactly why he pulled out of his fight against Javier Fortuna.
Jason Quigley and Shane Mosley Jr. were eager to face one another earlier this year—so much, that they turned to each other for their next fight. The intriguing middleweight clash previously due to take place earlier this year has been repackaged for May 29 at Michelob ULTRA® Arena in Las Vegas. The bout will serve in support of WBC lightweight titlist Devin Haney (25-0, 15KOs) in his attempted third defense versus former three-division titlist Jorge Linares (47-5, 29KOs).
Oscar De La Hoya disputes Devin Haney’s version of why Ryan Garcia didn’t agree to fight him after defeating Luke Campbell. Haney, the WBC world lightweight champion, feels it’s obvious that Garcia ducked him. De La Hoya, whose company promotes Garcia, contends that Haney needs to strengthen his resume before Garcia will consider challenging him, even though Haney holds a 135-pound championship.
Last week, MMA veteran Eddie Alvarez revealed that his handlers were approached to discuss the possibility of fighting former six division world champion Oscar De La Hoya. De La Hoya, 48-years-old, retired from boxing after suffering a one-sided stoppage loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2008.
Oscar De La Hoya has acknowledged “having a couple drinks” before joining the commentating team for Triller Fight Club’s pay-per-view show Saturday night in Atlanta.
Last year, Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez became a free agent when he parted ways with longtime promoter, Golden Boy Promotions. The tension between Canelo and Golden Boy was becoming very apparent in late 2019.
According to former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, who currently competes for ONE, there are serious negotiations to fight six division champion Oscar De La Hoya in a boxing match.
