ORNELAS, McKART COLLIDE AUG. 10 - FOR NABF TITLE AS NEW ALHAMBRA HOSTS THREE BOXING CARDS IN FIVE WEEKS

Philadelphia, PA—Enrique Ornelas, of La Habra, CA, and Bronco McKart, of Monroe, MI, box for the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF) middleweight title over 12 rounds on Friday evening, Aug. 10, at the New Alhambra, Swanson & Ritner Streets, next to Forman Mills, in South Philadelphia.  First of seven fights at 7.30 p.m.

Telefutura/Univision will televise the Ornelas-McKart championship fight as part of a two-hour telecast from 8 to 10 p.m.  The card is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Peltz Boxing Promotions and Joe Hand Promotions.

It’s going to be a busy summer for the New Alhambra.  In addition to Ornelas-McKart on Aug. 10, there are two other cards scheduled.

Rogers Mtagwa, of South Philadelphia, takes on Aldo Valtierra, of Mexico City, for the vacant NABF featherweight title there Friday evening, July 20.  That card is promoted by Don Chargin in association with Peltz Boxing and Joe Hand.

DeeLee Promotions also has a card scheduled at the New Alhambra on Friday, Aug. 24.

Ornelas, 26, has a 25-3 record, 15 knockouts.  In his last fight Nov. 26, he lost a 10-round majority decision to world-rated Sam Soliman, of Melbourne, Australia, in San Jacinto, CA.  Ornelas had won five in a row prior to losing to Soliman.

A pro since 1999, Ornelas has beaten Tim Shocks, Christian Cruz and Sergio Rios.

The 36-year-old southpaw McKart is 50-7, 31 knockouts, and has fought the best at 154 and 160 pounds since turning pro in 1992.  At one time he held the World Boxing Organization (WBO) version of the world junior middleweight title and he has defeated Darrell Woods, Aaron Davis, Santos Cardona, Glenwood Brown, Alex Bunema, Jason Papillion and Michael Lerma.  He is a former NABF junior middleweight champion and three of his losses were to Ronald “Winky” Wright.

Earlier this year McKart scored a pair of eight-round decisions over Ted Muller and Clarence “Sonny Bono” Taylor.

While this will mark Ornelas’ first trip to Philadelphia, McKart has been here before, knocking out Richard Evans and outpointing Brown.  Both fights were in 1997.

Seven additional fights complete the program.
