Later this evening at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif., unbeaten Luis Ramos takes on lightweight trialhorse Raymundo Beltran in the main event of Showtime's debut telecast of 2012.

In an absolute war, Omar Figueroa survived the toughest test of his career in emphatic fashion, brawling his way to a 6th round stoppage over Michael Angelo "The Artist" Perez in a co-feature battle of unbeaten lightweight prospects.

Perez boxed early, but Figueroa made it very clear that boxing alone wasn't going to get the job done. Both fighters threw fierce body shots throughout the bout, but it was Figueroa's sustained attack that proved to be the difference.

Momentum swayed back and forth, but Figueroa eventually broke down Perez. Referee Jose Cobian nearly stopped the bout towards the end of the sixth round, but gave Perez a chance to fight his way out of trouble.

Perez' corner wasn't as willing to let the action continue, not liking what they saw in their charge and wisely opted to pull the plug.

The official time was 3:00 of the 6th round.

Figueroa improves to 14-0-1 (11KO) with the win. Perez suffers his first loss as a pro as he falls to 15-1-1 (9KO).
