Durango will be dressed up for a party on May 19, with a professional boxing event that Azteca 7, La Casa del Boxeo will broadcast throughout Mexico from that beautiful and thriving city in another Zanfer promoted card.
The son of the legend is back, Omar "Businessman" Chavez, will be facing dangerous Argentine Jose Carlos ¨Puro¨Paz in the Palenque of the FENADU of Durango.
Chavez (26-4-1, 24 KOs) and Paz (21-7-1, 13 KOs) over ten rounds at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds, and they are promising a true war between Mexico and Argentina.
In the televised co-feature, a battle of knockout artists with Pedro "La Roca" Campa (28-1, 19 KOs) from Guaymas,taking on Uriel "Bombardero" Pérez (16-3, 15 KOs) from Querétaro, over ten rounds in the super lightweight division.
The announcement of the doubleheader was made official today during a press conference at the Bicentennial Convention Center of the City of Durango that was presided over by State Governor José Rosas Aispuro with the presence of Durango Sports Director Alejandro Álvarez, the great Mexican champion Julio César Chávez , Omar Chávez and Guillermo Brito, who is Operational Director of Zanfer Promotions.
¨ I feel very grateful for the opportunities that life gives me, for the support of the Government of Durango, my father, Box Azteca and Zanfer Promotions with Fernando Beltrán. My return to the ring is going to display a renewed Omar with an eye on a world title, and on May 19 they will see that I am serious, I am ready for everything in the ring," said the 28-year-old Chavez.
While the living legend of boxing, Chavez Sr., explained why he gave his son one more chance to continue in boxing:
"I have seen him work on his preparation like never before, with a mentality that I did not recognize. And secondly because I am convinced that he has the talent and level to be fighting for a world title, it was just a matter of focusing, discipline in this difficult sport of boxing and he has to prove it on Saturday, May 19," said Chavez Sr.
Omar Chávez will return to the ring after nine months of inactivity after that painful defeat to Robert "La Amenaza" Garcia last August in the city of Monterrey.
