It was November 2016 and Nonito Donaire had just lost an action fight to Jessie Magdaleno. With the loss, Donaire lost the WBO world junior featherweight title.

The 2019 fight of the year is moving closer to seeing a sequel. A bantamweight championship unification bout between WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine titlist Naoya Inoue and WBC crownholder Nonito Donaire is currently in negotiations to be staged for April in Japan, Donaire promoter and Probellum CEO Richard Schaefer told BoxingScene.com in an interview on Monday.

By Jake Donovan - Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has made up for lost time following the longest layoff of his career by carrying the sport on his broad shoulders. In an era where many of the sport’s most notable boxers are content with fighting once a year (if even that often), Alvarez used his 2021 campaign to carry out a rate of activity he hasn’t enjoyed since 2011

Nonito Donaire’s remarkable return to the bantamweight division has been an anomaly.Boxers typically don’t drop down to lower divisions and succeed as they age, especially those that are approaching 40. A pair of former champions highlighted the weekend, both picking up their second win in a row since a loss to a younger tiger in the sports ranks, both with an eye on more glory ahead. While one is closer to his prime than the other, both remain near the top of their divisions.

By Corey Erdman - Nonito Donaire sat next to Reymart Gaballo at their pre-fight press conference, no hangers on or dais between them as is customary in boxing. It would have been pointless to feign the necessity of barriers or restraint between two fighters who genuinely liked one another, and in Gaballo’s case, idolized his foe. As it turned out, there was a more practical reason for Donaire to sit next to Gaballo, as he wound up acting as a translator for Gaballo at one point. As Gaballo described what he needed to watch out for against Donaire, he looked to Donaire for the English translation of what he was saying.
