Nathan Gorman: record, next fight and profile →
NATHAN GORMAN believes Joe Joyce is capable of upsetting Daniel Dubois in their huge Heavyweight clash, despite what cousin Tyson Fury believes. Gorman famously felt the power of Dubois, getting knocked out in five rounds, when they met for the vacant British championship last July.
THE SUPPORTING CAST to unified world super lightweight champion Josh Taylor's return to Glasgow on Saturday May 2 is beginning to take shape with a press conference scheduled for Wednesday to unveil the line-up.
The fight for the vacant EBU light heavyweight title between Callum Johnson (18-1) and Igor Mikhalkin (23-2) that was set for March 7 in Manchester on a Matchroom promotion is now pushed forward until May 2 with site remaining Manchester. There´s been no reason given for the postponement. Topping the bill May 2 is Dillian Whyle vs Alexander Povetkin.
Nathan Gorman believes everything happens for a reason. His sole professional setback in June against Daniel Dubois resulted in him taking himself out of the boxing bubble and focussing his mind solely on family matters. Prior to the heavyweight blockbuster at the o2 Arena, Gorman had to contend with the distress of his young son falling ill and then the not altogether straightforward birth of his daughter as he entered fight week.
As part of a long running advertising campaign that saw Gorman tell viewers ‘I’m the man to beat Daniel Dubois’ the pair were matched for the vacant British heavyweight title in a fascinating clash of young, untested Frank Warren heavies at London’s O2 Arena. After a lengthy build-up Dubois proved to be the better man on the night thanks largely to his jab, back hand and power which saw Gorman dropped in round three before succumbing to “Triple D” in the fifth round. A bitter pill to swallow for the losing fighter who had occasional success with the left hook but, as he told Boxing Scene, fought the wrong fight on the night.
THE LANDSCAPE DIDN’T noticeably shift by much following a second sitting of heavyweight shenanigans at the o2 Arena on Saturday. Our show the previous weekend was very much about progression, with big steps forward taken by both Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce, with Daniel incredibly winning a sixth title belt in just 12 fights as a professional.
IT WAS PROBABLY a sporting weekend like no other. From the relentless brilliance of Lewis Hamilton setting a record for British Grand Prix wins, to the majesty of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer pulling strokes at Wimbledon, to England’s swashbuckling cricket team snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in the most dramatic fashion imaginable to win a first world cup.

Frank Warren assured Thursday that the Daniel Dubois-Nathan Gorman fight Saturday night will be much more memorable than their press conference. The British heavyweight rivals expressed respect toward one another Thursday, two days before they’ll go at it Saturday night at O2 Arena in London. The 21-year-old Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) and the 23-year-old Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) know each other well from all the time they spent sparring as part of the GB Squad in England.
