Hall of Fame trainer, Ignacio "Nacho" Bertistain, views former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz as a good fighter - despite his physical form.

Ruiz created a massive upset back in June of 2019, when he dropped Anthony Joshua four times to secure a seventh round stoppage to capture the IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO world titles at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Ruiz took the fight on late note after the original opponent, Jarrell Miller, was pulled from the fight after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.

But after he achieved the big win, he made a big mistake by partying for the next two months.

Ruiz entered training camp late and he in terrible shape when he entered the ring for his rematch with Joshua in December.

He was sluggish and unable to get off with his punches, as Joshua easily outboxed him over twelve rounds for a unanimous decision win to reclaim the titles.

It didn't take long before Ruiz parted ways with his trainer Manny Robles.

Earlier this week it was officially announced that Ruiz would work with veteran coach Eddy Reynoso for his next fight. Reynoso is best known as the head trainer for Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. He also works with Oscar Valdez, Julio Cesar Martinez, and several others.

"Andy has attributes. Despite him being fat, he is a fast fighter, he is a good fighter. I was a little sad to see that he had some difficulty with the coach that he had [Manny Robles], who is one of the best coaches out there," Nacho said.

"I think that indiscipline is going to lead him to the same thing [regardless of the trainer]. He is not a bad fighter but the heavyweight division is saturated with great fighters, it will be difficult for him. I think he will earn a lot of money because he has the right attributes but there are two or three [in the weight class] that can put him at peace."
