Zanfer Promotions CEO Fernando Beltran, who promotes WBO junior middleweight world champion Jaime Munguia of Mexico, says a deal is close to have his fighter make his second defense on the HBO Pay-Per-View undercard to the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin rematch.
Canelo-Golovkin II takes place on September 15th at the T-Mobile Arena rematch in Las Vegas.
Beltran is speaking with the event's lead promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, and they are close to an agreement.
Beltran hopes a deal will be reached.
"We have a very good relationship with [Golden Boy CEO] Oscar De La Hoya. We help each other in different things and if it is to help and lead the fighters' careers we will continue to work with them. We are in talks for Munguía to fight on September 15," said Beltran to ESPN Deportes.
"We can keep making alliances. Munguia is a proud fighter of Zanfer and we hope we can make something happen for September 15. It would be a very good platform for Jaime to make a new defense of his super welterweight championship of the World Boxing Organization. And if we reach an agreement, the announcement will come from Golden Boy, not from our side."
Munguia came on the boxing scene in May of this year - when he came in as a late replacement and scored a knockout victory over Sadam Ali in four brutal rounds.
Then last month at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Munguia made the very first defense of his title and picked up a solid twelve round unanimous decision over former champion and mandatory challenger Liam Smith of the UK. Munguia had to fight through some tough rounds and dropped Smith in the contest.
