Mikkel Kessler vs. Roamer Angulo Nears For November 11

By Per Ake Persson

According to Danish paper Ekstrabladet, in a few days it will be made public that former WBA and WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler´s comeback will go ahead on November 11 at the Messecenter in Herning. The opponent could be Colombian contender Roamer Alexis Angulo (22-0).

The 38-year old Kessler had his last fight in 2013, when lost a decision in a rematch with Carl Froch, and then officially retired in 2015 and has been training for a comeback since the spring and is reportedly looking very good in sparring. He spent a week in Sweden recently sparring with World Boxing Super Series participant Erik Skoglund.

Herning has been the home to many of Kessler´s best performances and it was here that he beat Carl Froch in their first bout back in 2010. Kessler also took out Gusmyr Perdomo and Brian Magee in this venue.

Mogens Palle and Brian Nielsen will stage the first Danish Fight Night of the new season on October 7 at the Frederiksberghall in Copenhagen. Topping the bill is eternally young super middleweight veteran Lolenga Mock, 9-0, since returning to action in December of 2015.

Mock is # 1 of the Danish fighters at boxrec but is only # 34 with the WBC and # 12 with the EBU.

Also on the bill are light heavyweight Jonas Madsen (10-0), heavyweight Pierre Madsen (9-0), cruiserweight Detlev Rossing (6-0) and super lightweight Enock Poulsen (5-0).

The next Danish Fight Night set for November 11 will be a special one as it then was 60 years ago Hall of Fame promoter Mogens Palle began his career. In November of 1957 future EBU middleweight champoion Chris Christensen headlined a show at the KB Hall in Copenhagen.

The World Boxing Super Series Tournament that begins on Saturday September 9 in Berlin with Oleksandr Usyk vs Marco Huck will feature some special rules - such as there will four men scoring the fight thus including the referee but the fourth vote will only be used in case of a draw as a winner must be declared in every fight.. Another new detail is instant replays of controversial moments such as low blows and headbutts.

Dutchman Nieky Holzen is as previously reported out as challenger for the vacant EU 168 lb title. It will now be Adasat "El Toro" Rodriguez (16-6-2) and Dragan Lepei (11-1-2) that clash for the vacant title. The EBU have set September 13 deadline for purse offers or agreement.

Lepei stopped Frenchman Mathieu Bauderlique (12-0 coming in) in his last fight.

Finnish light heavyweight champ Timo Laine (20-8) steps down to super middleweight and take on Henri Kekalainen (9-4) for the vacant national title October 21 in Kauhava. Topping the bill EU cruiser champ Juho Haapoja defending the title against Aleksandro Jur.

Light heavies Orial Kolaj (18-5) and Mustafa Chadlioui (10-2-2 and Spanish champion) meet for the vacant EU title October 20 in Rome. The show is promoted by Round Zero.

If he gets back that piston-like jab he had way back in '07 when he basically annihilated Librado Andrade, he'll do well in his comeback. I don't know where it went from around '08 til the 1st retirement, but it…

I think it's pretty clear that he came back for the money. I mean, he can still get a couple of mills.

Didnt kessler have a serious eye injury? He should stay retired. He went out a warrior and now he may go out like a old man. I am hoping he does not get koed or stopped.

Having a replays and a 4th man scoring sounds good, not sure if it should be the ref though as always thought having a ref score could potentially distract from doing his main job. But better than being left with…
